OK. Day 1 on display. Maintaining humidity between 45 - 50%...temp at 37.5 C - I'm not going to candle again for a few days. I'm hoping that by day 6 or 7...about this time next week... I'll be able to see some signs of development as well as air cells. Here's hoping....

Mmmm..... Depends what you mean by 'small' - I couldn't detect any air cells at all....on any of the eggs!

Today I set a dozen Polish chamois bantam with frizzle gene eggs with a half dozen of our own 'home laid' bantam eggs... Before I set the eggs I candled them all. I don't normally do this...just candle them around day 10 to check development and air cells and to clear out the non-starters...

Just to re-enforce the replies that have already been made here.....it's no problem at all for the chicks to discover food and water within a few hours of hatching... In my experience once the buggers cotton-on there's no stopping them! and they rapidly turn into poop making machines. depending...

This is quite an issue! Further to my comment on P.4 of this thread....it seems to me that we create many potential problems for ourselves in our choice of dog breed and the decision to keep chickens at all if we know that our 'best friend' is never going to be a friend to our feathered...

Ermmm.... NHMountainMan - What's a 'raptor' ?? I know it couldn't possibly be an extinct predatory reptile from 65 million years ago so it has to be something else....I'm pretty sure we don't have them here in the UK. I'm guessing it's a nickname for something. I've heard this name mentioned...

Welcome Aboard! - It's great that you found us! So sorry to hear of your losses.... We introduced our three chihuahuas to our chickens while they were still chicks and living in a brooder in the kitchen. They had regular indoor interactions with them and over a period of weeks they learned...

So many methods... Like many have said it all depends on how many chicks you're raising. I do 6 or less at a time and the first couple of weeks they spend in one of those under-bed plastic boxes that you normally use for keeping sheets or clothes in to prevent them from getting dusty. Modified...

Hey, Manhen - You really do need to specify degrees C or F... Here the default is degrees Centigrade....Just ask anyone in the UK!!
