2 1/2 month old Cuckoo Marans trouble standing

I had the Department of Agricultural come out and do testing on this pullet and my adult flock. They came back negative for Mycoplasma, Avian influenza and New Castle Disease. Those are the only ones they test for here in WV. After the results were back, I euthanized the pullet in the video as...

2 1/2 month old Cuckoo Marans trouble standing

They were vaccinated for it. I did just get a call from the vet, she tested positive for coccidia, so I will treat the whole flock tomorrow with Corid. Thank you for the reply, I will research more on Mareks.

2 1/2 month old Cuckoo Marans trouble standing

My young Cuckoo Marans is having trouble standing, seems thin in the breast but otherwise healthy-looking. Only eats 20% chick starter and hasn't been outdoors yet. Other 8 show no signs of illness. My poultry vet moved away..ugh! When she stands she stretches up like a cat. She's eating and...

Are any of these breeds incompatible in a mixed flock?

I have Barred Rocks and Dominiques they are both very gentle, I even have a Barred Rock Roster who is very gentle and kind to his hens. Of course roosters aren't required and can be a problem sometimes. Barred Rocks lay large eggs about 4 to 5 a week, Dominiques lay medium eggs about 3 to 4 a...

    Chick heater recommendations

I like the radiant heaters, they are fire proof and very safe. They do cost a little more but I think it is well worth the investment. You raise the legs as the chicks grow, I used mine until my chicks were fully feathered with pine shavings for bedding or puppy pads. A 10x10 will fit 15 chicks...

Raising baby chicks outside with no heat in 35 degree weather

Chicks cannot regulate their body temperature, it is imperative they have heat. I use a brooder, you can get them on Amazon for not so much money. It's a good investment if you are going to raise chicks. They come with adjustable legs so you can use them until the chicks are fully feathered. It...

All turned out to be Roosters - Need Help

They look like pullets but it's still hard to see all the feathering, they should either start laying eggs or maybe one crowing soon.

All turned out to be Roosters - Need Help

I agree those are definitely not broilers which is good news as they are not recommended as being kept after butchering age, it can be done but it isn't easy. They are White Leghorns, I have 3 hens of this breed, they are very nice birds, curious and friendly. They lay large white eggs, up to 5...

Just how useful is a rooster anyway?

I have a Barred Plymouth Rock Rooster and a RIR rooster, I had to take the RIR out of the flock because he was severely beating up the BPR rooster and some of the hens. I had read that RIRs are known to be aggressive and he was supposed to be a female as I would not have purchased a RIR rooster...
