Mike's is good, Concord Feed in Pleasant Hill is good, but Lucky Dog Pet Supply on San Pablo at Allston has always had feed when we need it. They also usually have a range of chicks/pullets as well.
OK, we're 2-1/2 weeks into our first chicken experience. We started with this brooder, a 30 inch pail with a hula hoop covered in hardware cloth for a cover. Thought we'd be good for a while but those gals grow fast!!!

Well, I just had an unfortunate order from them. We ordered 5, they sent 6. 1 DOA and 3 more died within 2 days. However the USPS took 2 full days to deliver them and the heat pack was still a little warm.
I don't blame MyPetChicken at all, in fact they refunded the cost of the whole thing...
I think the hatchery is just fine. I think the 2 nights it took in the mail, coupled with our misreading thermometer did them in. I just checked with our local feed store who said they weren't getting chicks until April, apparently got a whole slew of them in this week that hatched the same...
