EcoGlo 20 chick brooder. They aren't hiding. They're happy and playful. Then suddenly lethargic, puffed, won't open eyes, won't move, bloody poop. Then die. I'm thinking cocci from the symptoms so I'm treating with Corid.
Don't have a pic, but it's a large tote/tub. Newspaper bedding, chick starter & water. Temp between 95-98. Everything is changed often, several times a day because of the bloody poop.
I lost another one overnight. An Ameraucana. Ugh. I started Corid yesterday afternoon, so I guess we'll see how it goes. Is a cocci outbreak common in chicks? I usually let my broodies do the job, but I really needed more hens, so I bought these.
Thanks! I've isolated the last :( SLW because I thought I saw a tiny bit of blood. I put a paper towel down to check but no blood so far. I'm going to keep her isolated for a while longer though. I'm just sick and heartbroken!
I've lost yet another chick! 4th loss in 4 days! I bought 12 chicks Friday. 2 Ameraucanas (healthy), 3 Black Australorps (healthy), 3 SLW, 4 Buff O. 2 BO dead, 2 SLW dead. Brooder conditions are good (temp good, fresh water and food, fresh bedding daily, etc.) Medicated chick starter only...
These 12 are in addition to the six painted silkies we got about 3 weeks ago. Aaaand we have silkies setting a dozen white silkie eggs. So. Many. Chickens. Hahaha
