My broody had two eggs under her, the other hens kept laying in here nest so I had them marked. This morning I went to collect the other eggs from her and noticed broken eggshell! My first thought was "oh no, she got too hungry and ate an egg! ". Haha, I didn't think it had been long enough...
Thanks. It does kind of look like the avian pox (why isn't it called chicken pox? ). There is much info on treating it though. I will Google and ask some friends and feed stores what they know about it. I wonder if the eggs are still ok to eat?
I just noticed these black/blue and some white bumps/spots on my roo's comb and wattle. Then I checked the ladies and a couple of them have some too. They are all acting fine. What are these? Should I be concerned?
Thanks.
I have two 7 month olds that I got 2.5 weeks ago to add to our 3 month olds(replacing the roos). One of them has laid an egg almost every day since then. The other one laid one or two at first and hasn't laid any since. Is this normal when they first start laying or is something wrong with her...
I'm just curious...did you get chickens that were sexed or straight run? I ordered females which are one week old right now and would be so sad to have to get rid of a lot of Roos that were supposed to be females. Thanks for the answer.
Well I guess you could say both, or neither? lol . I got...
cowgirl..I don't want to eat them, but someone else can. How do you suggest I go about finding them a good home (aka dinner plate)? And at what age are they big enough for that?
Featherz, where are you sending your roos to? I imagine it's really hard to get rid of roos, especially mean ones!
jjparke, I will definitely not be eating them, delicious or not! I have enough trouble as it is eating meat when I think too hard about where it came from, no way could I eat...
Thanks, Treehugger! I will try to post some pics in a bit. I don't have a lot of good pics though....they aren't still long enough to get a clear pic! lol
I have 8 week old chicks, with 4 suspect roos (out of 7! great odds, huh? ). One is crowing, so I am pretty sure he is a roo! lol Another one is behaving very badly...very aggressive toward the other chickens and he is trying to mount them already! Then I have two others that might be roos...

They are actually kept outside, in Florida where the temps have been well into the 90's with very high humidity. It is HOT. And they were completely out of water except what was in the pitcher...and there's no way they could have reached the water in there without falling in head first...
We went out of town this weekend and had to leave our 3week old chickens by themselves. My DH asked a friend to check on them and to make sure they had food and fresh water. Well we got home late last night and the first thing I did was go to check on the chicks...they had absolutely NO food, my...
When they dust bathe so they lay on their sides and wiggle around and kick their legs? My 2 week old rir was doing this in a container of moist dirt and freaked me out! I thought something was wrong with it...them it dawned on me maybe it was dust bathing?
