    Hawk threat....

I had a redtail hawk kill, pluck the feathers completely and eat my 4-5 lb duck where it was caught to find the remains left only the skeleton, head and feet. I removed all that remained including the feathers...the hawk hung around for three weeks before finally moving on. I kept my ducks...

    Hawks

I had a hawk kill my largest drake, pull all the feathers out and all that was left was his head and feet, picked clean to the bone. It was a red tail hawk and it hung around my yard for three weeks, even perching right over my duck pen in front of me! Yep, keep them locked in or it will be...

Tragedy on my farm today :(

Oh how awful! I lost my favorite egg layer and adult hen duck and her two 7 week old ducklings to a fox attack in May. I too, thought I had a very secure pen after almost two years without a loss in the pen. I rebuilt my pen and now lock them in every night in the duck house. I felt so sad...

Can't emphasize enough...Lock them in at dusk, don't let them out until mid morning!

I figured it out. The top...poultry netting which then collapsed the side fencing with the weight. I have replaced the poultry netting with fencing...and no more free range for now!

I wish you had! It returned and took my adult male at 10 AM yesterday.

Can't emphasize enough...Lock them in at dusk, don't let them out until mid morning!

I am beginning to see your point...I lost another duck yesterday morning at 10 AM. I let them out of the pen and went inside to answer the phone, came out 20 minutes later when my Indian Runner female sounded an alarm and my adult male Khaki Campbell was missing. All I found were scattered...

Can't emphasize enough...Lock them in at dusk, don't let them out until mid morning!

It seems you have some great experience with keeping predators out so I've been thinking...since I didn't have the camera to film he original visit from the fox and the attack-gee, I'm glad I didn't have to see the assault on my duck and ducklings though- what can I learn to do better? Yes, lock...

Can't emphasize enough...Lock them in at dusk, don't let them out until mid morning!

Thanks for that note! When I bought my first ducklings in 2013, I never thought I'd ever become attached to them. How wrong I was! I love having my ducks, not just for their eggs, which are great by the way! I love their antics, how they respond to my voice, they are funny and silly...

Can't emphasize enough...Lock them in at dusk, don't let them out until mid morning!

Yes it was! I know we have possum, raccoons, skunks, crows, heck, a red tail hawk took one of my ducks last fall, the very day the last leaves in the wooded area dropped from the trees and shrubs in the beginning of November. That hawk hung around for three weeks! I never thought of the...

Can't emphasize enough...Lock them in at dusk, don't let them out until mid morning!

I can't emphasize enough...Lock them in a coop or house at night and don't let them out until mid morning! I have a small flock of ducks, one male, three females, mostly Khaki Campbell and one Indian Runner. Six weeks ago on a balmy night, just after integrating new ducklings into the flock, I...

    Fox Attack

Lock them in at night! I learned the hard way six weeks ago...I lost two ducklings and my favorite egg layer hen to a predator attack! The ducks were in the pen but not locked in the house. All I found was feathers and the pen torn open. My other ducks were scattered in the yard, hiding under...
