    So black copper marans have so much variety within the breed. The comb and wattles tell you little in this breed. They are notorious for having big combs early in some . The copper should only be in the neck area on pullets. Copper on the wings , chest and tail are cockerel traits

    Lost my flock of three chickens today....

    I've lost a few to foxes and Hawks. If you free range it happens unfortunately. It hurts me to have this happen but unless you keep them locked up 24/7 it's a part of having chickens. Sorry for your loss.

    We found several dens on our property. Foxes will have many around. We flooded the dens and destroyed them. So far they haven't been back.

    Dog Attack --photos

    I had a hen recently survive a very brutal fox attack recently. I use vetericyin on open wounds. If shocks give electrolytes. Chickens are pretty tough and make sure they are drinking and eating. I have a chicken first aid kit to grab in a hurry if and when something happens.

    I would start her on some oxytetracycline. She needs something systemic. It's a soluble powder that you put in her water. You can buy it at tractor supply or a livestock feed store.

    I just went through this due to a fox attack. Apply vetericyn daily. Bandage it with vet wrap and keep her isolated until she heals more. If she's eating and drinking then I wouldn't worry about shock too much. If you want you can give her electrolytes to help her with the stress. Watch for...
