Thanks for the responses. I was thinking the same things…. Fungus or age. The bumps along the feather line are soft and felt swollen. I don’t think I touched the ones further down.
I’ll update if I can get a vet to look at him. I do have a local vet I’ve used for birds but the duck is so...
Hello,
Has anyone seen a duck bill like this? Any ideas what’s happening? I’ve been searching the forums/google and can’t find similar images. I’ve seen some threads about duck bill peeling. My ducks have had peeling before but I don’t remember if it ever looked this bad.
He’s an 8 year old...
Today my last chicken was euthanized by a vet and I am feeling disturbed by her condition. I feel nauseous when I think about it and can still smell it. Her entire abdomen was off colour, swollen and covered with maggots. The abdomen wall was intact but tissue exposed. It as all a blur but...
Just an update for anyone searching this topic: my elderly chicken died last night in her sleep (late July 6 or early July 7). It did look peaceful… she was lying in the same spot as I put her in, although her head fell in her water bowl which wasn’t nice. During the day of July 6 she mostly...
Thank you for sharing your experience. Sounds like your hen passed peacefully. Mine is a Belgian d’uccle. I think my chicken had her last meal yesterday. I bought her watermelon because it’s hot. she perked up with a bit of joy and ate it. She hasn’t eaten this morning and seems a lot...
Hello,
I have a 10.5 year old chicken who is dying. I can’t decide if I should take her to an emergency vet to euthanize (can’t get a regular appointment) or let her pass naturally. I have no experience with chickens slowly dying of old age… my other chickens were either euthanized after an...
I certainly didn't think it was possible to love chickens more than dogs but that is what happened for me, haha. I suppose it's because I spent the last 10 years exclusively keeping chickens so I poured all my love and attention into caring for them... but if I had a dog during that time (or my...
I absolutely don't want that to happen! This particular dog has a very low prey-drive and pretty much ignores them (through the fencing) which is nice because he doesn't obsessively want to go to the backyard and go after them (like my parent's high prey-drive dog when she visits) but I don't...
I have the opportunity to adopt a beautiful, well behaved, low prey-drive dog who has been fostered by a family member and I've gotten to know quite well. However, I'm having such strange, conflicting feelings about it because of my chickens. I love my chickens so much and don't want to take...
Looks awesome! Great job.
I've been watching a bunch of videos of Carolina coop assembly. One thing I'm unclear on... is it just a single wall? So framing with a sheet of plywood on the back (inside of coop)? My current coop has framing sandwiched between two sheets of plywood so both sides...
Thank you for your reply. I had washed her feet the first time I looked at them (probably should have done it again prior to the photo!) and a lot of it was dirt. But the spot on the left side did resemble a bit of necrotic bumblefoot scab... not as circular and well defined as other cases...
Hello,
My 6 year old chicken has a swollen foot and leg. There does appear to be a large lump on the foot pad but not a well defined black plug/scab as I've seen with other bumblefoot cases in the past.
She is not limping or otherwise seem sick but the leg does seem warmer to the touch than...
I'm a first time duck owner and I think I've gotten in over my head! I was so concerned about noise and messiness that while researching ducks, I missed a major, obvious point... how sexually aggressive they can be!
From my three ducklings I ended up with two drakes and one hen. Far from...
