I just pulled out two hardened pieces of white pus from my girl's eye. I think I'm going to have bad dreams tonight! Disgusting.
It took a while to soften the eyelids with water so that I could spread them apart. I held her with a damp cloth over her eye for about 20 minutes and then was able...
So many people don't really believe that the chickens like the affection and this can't be further from the truth.
I cut down 30 minutes of time to 6.
I love my birds and spend a lot of time with them which is apparent here as you can see them jostling for position in my lap.
So...this CAN...
Just wondering how your situation is coming along. Did you decide to let them forage at will? I have my birds in a free range pen and let them out in the afternoon after most of the laying is done. We are on several acres but they never seem to go any further than about 100 yards from the house...
I am inclined to try artificial lighting as they only laid for five months. I wouldn't continue it the whole year though.
East side of the Pacific Ocean....hmmm...so somewhere between the southern tip of Chile and northern Alaska. Yep, I know exactly what your weather and lighting is like....
Well their entire coop/pen is free range.
Their shelter is just a roofed area in the trees with perches. It's not entirely, enclosed and just the ground as the floor so any sort of ant or insect can get in. It's literally a free range pen and they've got about 5000 sq ft of penned area. Not to...
Did you ever find out what was the cause of the sores? Did you get a photo?
One of my girls has two blister like sores. I've not seen it on any others....
Thanks pigeon lover. I'd love to do that. After incubating many many batches of birds both quail and chickens, I'm really wishing I could just leave it up to the birds. Chickens aren't a problem. One of my girls went broody three times this year alone.
So do your birds need more light to lay...
Thanks Jerry. I guess had I thought it through a little better I'd have come up with that about the crest and the beard. I think I might see what I can do with these. See how they lay, how early they start etc.
Just posting a link as this could be of interest to this thread.
My pure white CCL x Ameruacana post

Has anyone else done this x with these results?
I would love to pick the brains of genetic pros out there.
I have a CCL hen in with a Lavender Cuckoo Ameraucana roo and I've had quite a few offspring from this match.
This spring I ended up with two that are pure white. One Pullet and one Cockerel.
So, they both carry double blue egg...
Yes his leg is not going to recover. He can do nothing but watch the world. I'm going to have to put him down.
Now what you said about the birds apparently dead...THAT has me intrigued. I have had that happen to two young pullets in the last month. What on earth made you try to resuscitate...
