    Different aged chicks together?

Hi, I have 4 - 9 week old chicks and one appears to be a too as he's trying his hardest to crow. He sounds so funny. I also have 16 - 5 week old chicks. They've been in the same room mossy of the time. I kept each group at school the first 2 weeks and brought them home on the weekend. Anyway...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

I'm a bit late posting - but it's been quite a week. I got to school last Monday to find 2 newly hatched chicks in the incubator. Throughout out the next two days, my students were able to watch 8 more hatch. The brooder I made worked perfectly and the chicks are doing very well. Today I...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

I like that. Thanks for sharing. I did a little work on my brooder tonight. I took the shavings out, put down some skid resistant shelf liner and hung the heating pad a little lower in the dish drainer so it should touch their backs. I also put the heating pad in a very soft flannel...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Thanks for your replies. I have 12 eggs. My problem is that I needed something that I can easily move out of my classroom. When planning this, I took into consideration spring break so they would hatch when we returned. What I didn't think about were the state exams that start the day the...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

I love this idea!! I am a teacher and we're hatching chicks in my 4th grade classroom. Tuesday will be day 21 and we're so excited!! I was worried about leaving a lamp on all night so this is perfect. Anyway, I've made my brooder using a small wire dish rack and I've attached the heating pad...

We have 14 hens and only got 3 eggs in a 48 hour period.

I'm feeling more hopeful, we've only had them 5 days and have had about 14 eggs. That's more than the previous owner was getting. So hopefully once they settle in, we'll get a normal amount

I hope the person was trustworthy. I am a teacher in his son's school. :) We did get 3 more eggs today and 1 was actually in the nesting box. So I am feeling hopeful. We'll see how things go in the next few weeks. Thank you so much for your response.

We have 14 hens and only got 3 eggs in a 48 hour period.

We just purchased 14 18 month old hens from a neighbor. He told us he was getting about 12 eggs in a week. That just doesn't sound right from what I've read. Is there something we can feed them to increase egg production? We are using chicken feed, oyster shells and scratch grains. We just...
