Update: she's up and talking this morning and passed another membrane-only egg during the night, this one smaller and softer than the first. Could it be that she's not eating the oyster shell? I read a few places about giving her oral calcium... Should I go get some of that and give it to her in...
Hi everyone, my 8 month old black Copper Maran (Florence) began acting lethargic this afternoon, laying under the coop, holding her tail down, walking like she was uncomfortable. She was broody about a week and a half ago for maybe 3 days, at which point I rearranged the coop and temporarily...
They are both a lot of fun! Fiona (the SS) is a huge brat though! Decidedly not very high in the pecking order but very often the first to do something I'd rather they not (like break into the garden...) And she'll just stare me down when I yell at her to stop them stroll slowly away while the...
She's looking better this morning... More upright and I saw her drinking and she's feeling up to looking annoyed at me for checking on her so I consider that progress.
My biggest concern at the moment is that she doesn't seem to be eating. I think she's really hurting...doesn't want to move and I got an angry glare when I shifted her to peek underneath her to make sure there wasn't more blood (nothing on the blanket so I think the bleeding has stopped). She...
It looks like she got caught on something... Just one wound i could see and where it is I don't think it would be easy for the other girls to reach, but who knows? I'm hoping she will eat but right now she's just sitting fluffed up in her box. Her comb/wattle color looks OK, and there wasn't a...
Just got home and my 23wk OEG hen has an injury on he lower abdomen, near the inside of her leg. Her breathing also sounds a little crackly. I work at a vet's office and we have a chicken very so I'm bringing her into work with me tomorrow but other than keeping her warm and getting food and...
The delaware's legs don't seem proportionality larger than any of the others. They aren't as big as either of my 3 EEs, who are just big girls all around but not showing any signs of roo-ness. But maybe I'm grasping at straws here cuz I really don't want her to be a roo!
Hi chicken experts, I need some assistance sexing a couple of my chicks. They are a little over 4 weeks old and the two I have concerns about the most are my Delaware and my SS. The SS is only because she has no tail to speak of and is behind all the others on feathering, just now getting...
the feed isn't wet now...they are always offered dry (sealed, made fresh in ~5lb increments) and wet is only soaked in 1/2 cup amounts at a time, so I don't think mold or botulism is the issue...but they ate a good amount of eggs, and drank some mollasses-ey water, so we'll see what happens tonight.
no, the soaked food goes from fridge (soaked overnight in the fridge) to their box for just a little while. Usually they finish it very quickly, but haven't lately.
The chickens were not vaccinated, and no the feed we are making does not have any medications. First thing tomorrow we'll get a...
