I have Cystic Fibrosis, I actually am already a member of this website- as you can see, but I found this thread by searching "chickens and Cystic Fibrosis." I am wondering if I should continue to keep chickens or if their feces/bedding/feathers can cause my lungs problems.
We're trying our hand with Silkies and have had a blast. Getting ready for our first winter and have been getting conflicting answers as to just how winter tolerant these little guys will be. We live in North Dakota. How do you guys' Silkies do in the elements?
Thank-you for the information Destiny! We have a little calico splash pullet... She has brown and black splashes and is oh, three months old abouts. I was hoping she would start to lay at six months, but now can appreciate if it takes longer!
Thank-you! so much for the advice! With our first chicks we used to play a cell phone ring tone of a chick peeping to get them going... not sure how much was the phone and how much was just the right time haha. We have three pipped now for sure, but beyond that it's hard to tell since the eggs'...
Hi, from ND too, on the border about an hour from Fargo. We have Silkies and Reds. We're starting off, it's our first winter and there is so much to get ready before it gets too cold. Not to mention we have guineas hatching as we speak... haha
We still just have one, which is downright annoying... even though the first hatched almost two days early haha. Wednesday is their 28th day. Do you think they will breed and lay next Spring even though they're being born this Fall?
We're in the process of lock-down, as I type, with our Guineas. We got 21 eggs on-line and on day 25 we stopped turning and candled them for the last time and are left with 9. The Guineas have been much more unpredictable then the Silkie eggs we're used to hatching out. It's also not been easy...
We started breeding Silkie chickens not too long ago and one thing we noticed when we tried to find chicks to expand our breeding program is that Silkies are virtually impossible to find during the fall and winter months. We hatch and brood our chicks in our home which enables us to have chicks...
I have a young hen in a sort of Splash Calico of sorts. First she was mostly white then black and gray streaks started showing up and one morning there was tan and it just kept coming, it is still pretty faint or lightly tinted.
