Silver Laced Polish Gender at 5m?

Thank you all for your input!! Birb definetely appeared to be a boy when she was maturing, especially as a younger chick. So I had resolved her fate until recently, and I am glad I asked! It will be a few more months more than likely, but I cant wait to see some white eggs! All of my girls are...

Silver Laced Polish Gender at 5m?

Hi All! I have a silver laced polish chickie that someone found in a parking lot and gave to me. I have been calling Birb a him, but he does not display any male behaviors at approximately 5 months old (he looked to be a month when I got him). He spends his days free ranging seperately from my...

    Opened Ear Canal

Thats likely it. You can make out the ear flap (the coloration is different there) and the skin is gone right in front of it. I guess I should wait until he is full sized to try reintroducing. I bet it was one of the girls on the bottom of the pecking order. They seem to be the nastiest. Do you...

Supportive Care for Post Op Clocal Lacerations

Hi everyone, while I have another issue it reminded me to update this thread! Lucii is doing very well after her recovery from her cloaca being ripped apart. Nowadays, it looks like this: My only issue is that her skin gets FULL of poop. Im assuming the downy feathers there provide enough...

    Opened Ear Canal

I think it is a fresh injury unfortunately. His face has been fine up until this afternoon. I really think one of my pullets or older girls got a nasty feather up their arse, though I dont know why they waited weeks to go after him. I was worried that since birds typically have closed ear...

    Opened Ear Canal

I check him every night because he spends nights in my bathroom (im in an urban area with racoon pressure so Im not leaving him in the dog kennel outside at night, jist dont wanna chance it), and so far he has looked ok. He was imprinted on people somehow, so he follows me around and sits next...

    Opened Ear Canal

My silver laced polish mix chick that I have been raising alone (found on the street) has been slowly introduced to the outside group of three four month old pullets and three adult hens. They have been free ranging together for about 2 weeks during the day in my yard, and while they dont like...

Chick imprinted on me is a male, will he be friendly?

I'm really curious about this as well. I got a 3w old polish mix found on the street from some lady, and i'm thinking it is turning out a boy. Right now, it is super sweet and attached, comes when called, ect at about 3 months old. Seems to be a roll of the dice, though, from what I have read...

    Free Range Monsters

Love your garden! Personally, i use 3' high chicken wire with bamboo steaks woven through it to create a barrier. This works just fine for my personal birds, but we will see how well it goes with the new pullets. Good luck protecting your plants! They sure do love to eat plants

    Polish Crested Sex?

Probably a little bit too early, but I wanted to ask for opinions on the sex of this polish (mix? Someone found it) chick. It is around 9 weeks, but this is just a guess since it is a rescue off the street. The crest feathers have me leaning towards boy but I do not see saddle feathers...

    Sour Crop on Chick??

A small update on the little one...So far the sour crop smell comes and goes intermittently. I have been using miconozole for it, but Im thinking I might end up buying the fluconozole you linked since this doesnt seem to be working as well as I initially thought! As far as food goes, is there...

    Sour Crop on Chick??

Thanks for sharing your knowledge! I did some crop massaging last night which helped a lot, and this morning it is was totally empty! Additionally, the smell is TONS better. Im going to continue with the ACV water and probiotics. I have been giving mashed egg and soaked food as well. Hopefully...

Finally Got my Roo To Stop Crowing!

Thank you so much for posting this! I have been lamenting my potential sexed pullet that is looking like a rooster but is also my sweetest chick. This is quite the solution! Chickens are way smarter than we give them credit for lol

    Sour Crop on Chick??

Thank you for all the info! Im glad to know that it does actually happen in chicks. My intuition was telling me that only bread would really predispose a chick to issues with their crop. I will start with a grit tonight then do a food widthdrawl and an antifungal tomorrow. I already have been...
