Chickens in Clairemont...is an enclosed run necessary? I have a fenced off section for day use (they're secured in the coop at night), but only let them use it when I'm home (they're 6 weeks).
Think it's fairly safe to let them use the yard when I'm not home? Part of it is covered by lattice...
First time chicken owner.
My chicks are 6 weeks old. They've been on the brand of crumble they were fed where they hatched. Would like to change to Scratch N Peck starter/grower.
Do I approach it the same way I would with a dog or cat—changing it a bit at at time?

Excellent! Mine are in the bathtub (!), and although I take them outside to a pen after work, but some days it's dark before I get home. I'm thinking they would like more room for their chicken games. :)

I'm in Clairemont area. My girls will be 5 weeks old this Sunday, and seem to be feathered out--one still has some fluff on her head. I'd like put them out in the coop/run, but was told they have to be totally feathered out.
They sleep on top of the Brinsea heater now rather than...
(Jackieperk was asking about my chicks) I'm using a kiddie pool for the brooder, and it's bright pink... (only color they had and I didn't stop to think). Could they be pecking because of the color? We could drape a sheet over the sides to hide the color...
