UPDATE: now that the lavender Marans are a year old, I noticed on one of them had some red bleedthrough on her head! She's not a Lavender BCM like I bought, but instead must be a Wheaten Marans...mystery solved.

yes very true, I was referring to the fact that his mamma is lavender so she is black with the lav-genes…vs straw ie. red with lav genes. But i guess she could be heterozygous for black….and have given a red to this little one

Yeah they could be… but not likely. They’re French Marans with two lavender genes and the breeder is pretty adamant about that…I guess I should research skin color genetics again…but I thought it was pretty straightforward…unlike the comb scenario.

I wouldn’t separate her if the only difference you see is lethargy, the stress could do more harm than good. It won’t hurt to give them all yolk but it needs to be consumed within 24 hours and it should be well mixed with water, you don’t want it drying thick on their tiny beaks/noses/feathers...
