Oh, and I have no idea about the eggs, all of them are really intermittent and hers and her sister's are the same color. They haven't been doing much all summer.
I wasn't able to get the Nutri Drench, as the feed store was out. The 100 year old cowboy that works there said that tons of chickens are dying from the heat and that Salmon Favorelles (this one and the one that died) are too sensitive for this climate and to be around the other chickens I have...
So the crop is empty, didn't see mites. Has anyone else experienced a chicken getting too hot and just not bouncing back or should I be looking for something else? I did give some water last night and this am, will get the Nutri Drench after work. How much water should I give?
Hello, yes it is - open on all sides (hardware cloth) and shaded. I've had chickens for 9 years and been lucky not to have problems with any type of illness (just raccoons).
Interesting, everything I read online about an overheated chicken said to dunk them and it did seem to help her. I...
I'll check her crop and for mites in the morning. Her abdomen feels normal to me but honestly these chickens very rarely let me pick them up so I'm not sure what "normal" feels like.
I can go to the feed store tomorrow, assuming they'd have Nutri Drench?
My family was out of town and we had someone checking on the chickens but not letting them out to range (coop is about 70 square feet for 5 chickens). 2 chickens are almost 9 years old, indestructible. 1 is about 5. 2 are 1.5 years old so this is their 2nd summer. 1 of the young ones died on...
I had 3 Ameraucanas and they were kind of averagely noisy - squawking to be let out in the morning, letting us know they laid an egg or a squirrel was bothering them.
I got a couple more about 2 years ago (different breed) and one of them is SO LOUD. We thought it was a rooster until it...
I have 2 older hens and 2 chicks. The chicks got through a chain link fence today and into a neighbor's rosebush. Somewhere in the process of that and me chasing them back into my yard, one of them wounded her neck/face. She was pecking around and acting normal except for occasionally...
Hi all,
I have a 4.5 year old hen who is making nests and laying on eggs way back under a rabbit hutch where it's really hard for me to get to. I only discovered this by finding a rotten egg and then with the help of this forum, finding 12 more eggs in the back corner.
I removed them, and...
Came back to let you know you were right. I cleared out all the straw and there were 12 eggs WAY in the back, under an old rabbit hutch. Placed them into a ziploc very carefully and disposed of them.
Now, how to get them to lay somewhere more preferable? I figured if they don't want to climb...
Ok, they were in the enclosed/locked area that we open during the daytime. So, I think my first step will be to clear out the litter, make sure no eggs are hidden, then return the litter and keep the door closed/locked for a couple days to see if any new eggs appear?
I don't think that's what it is, but I will definitely clear out the litter and make sure. I did find a couple other people reporting this type of thing with a freshly laid egg in the box, are you guys sure I don't need to be concerned about infection etc?
I don't want the baby chicks to get...
