I can't feel anything broken. And she can move her toes without any problems. It just seems to hurt when she puts weight on it. While she stands, she does hold it up off the floor. When I was manipulating her foot, it didn't really seem to bother her.
There is no scab on the bottom of the foot. The last picture isn't the best as she started squiring, just some shadowing and poop. The skin on the top and bottom of the foot is completely intact. The weather here has been quite hot and dry. I'm completely stumped!
Hello everyone. I have a 1 year old RIR. Just over a week ago, I noticed she was limping. I didn't see any obvious injuries, so I decided to just watch her as she was still moving around very well. However, the next day, the other chickens began attacking her, chasing and pecking. She would run...
I need a little advice for wound care for my Buff Orpington. She had a very severe case of bumblefoot. We removed 2 kernals, 1 from the bottom of her foot & another from the top & the holes cleaned out. We did not have to do surgery. Now, there is a hole about the diameter of the cotton end of a...
I used a small amount of 7 dust. I did not dust her in the cage. It did not come into contact with any of her food or water.I thought the same thing, but not sure.
Hello all. My Buff Orpington seems ill & I need a little help. About 2 weeks ago I discovered that she had a pretty sever case of bumble foot. She was not showing signs of any distress when I noticed the foot. She happened to be on the roost when I walked into the coop. That's when I noticed her...
Thanks a lot. I know that not all hens will be broody. And that I may have to use an incubator if no one is broody at the time. I just wasn't sure if the chicken was better than the incubator or vice versa. So, you helped a lot. Good luck with the new additions!!
I have raised a few layers and last year raised a few meat chickens, all were store bought ckicks. Now my husband and I are looking into a dual purpose chicken and getting into raising chickens "from scratch". I think I'll be going with Bluff Orpingtons. I was wondering, is it best to let the...
After closer inspection, she has an ulceration next to the vent. It's approximately 1 1/2" deep. It was filled with maggots. My husband cleaned out as much as he could and as much as she would tolerate. She was soaked in warm water for quite a while. She was cleaned the best we could and some...
A few days ago, I noticed 1 of my 3 chickens had a very dirty vent area. Thought nothing of it as it has been raining a lot and the coop got flooded. She was acting fine. Today, she has low energy, but is walking around; has a very pale comb; is eating; head drawn in; ruffled feathers; tail...
