5 weeks old: When can they go into the coop?

My chickens seem enormous compared to when we got them 2 weeks ago. It seems to me like they have their feathers, but I am new at this and don't want to put them out too prematurely. The weather here in Massachusetts has been unseasonably cool. I want to put them in the coop so they can get...

One is getting her tail feathers plucked by the others

I guess I let her back in too early. Some people were advising me to let them settle it, but the injured one is now drawing blood again. She was fine with the others. She is so aggressive.

It is- You get such conflicting info that it is hard to know what to do when you are new at it. That's why I am so thankful for this site. The girls had a decent amount of space today and it was all fine until the bully started on her. I saw a drop of blood and took her out. The others were not...

One is getting her tail feathers plucked by the others

I think it's the one chicken which I now believe is the one who started it last time. But by the time I realized it, others were pecking her too- I think it was because she was bleeding. Today they were outside having a great time and I reintroduced her. They all pecked away at the ground for a...

I thought the other one had recovered. It is a beatutiful day so I put the chicks in a dog crate outside and they loved it! Once they were good and busy I reintroduced Rita . Everything was going great! They all mingled and had a good old time. Then I noticed the blood- again and the same one...

I think I have the bully- reintroduction of my injured one

I put my 5 weekers out in a dog crate today for the first time and they loved the outside. We finally had a great day. My husband is putting the coope together today, but I wanted to take advantage of the good weather to get them outside and out of the brooder. I put the 5 in and let them enjoy...

Trying to get her nack into the group - used BLu Kote and they still went after her. Trying again today when they get to go outside for firsttime. Hoping this helps. Fingers crossed. I am getting so discouraged!

I tried that and they went after her. Today I am taking them outside- I hope the distraction of being outside will help me put her back in. She is in there in the brooder with them but separated. Fingers crossed this works.

Thanks- The man we got them from said it isn't warm enough yet, but many on this forum said no light is needed during the day. (they were born april 18) I am trying to do what I am supposed to - at some point I have to do what I think makes sense- I will try that tomorrow. I did use Blu Kote...

    Reintroduction after one is attacked?

I am new to chicken keeping. The weather is not quite warm enough to put my 5 weekers out, especially at night. I realized their quarters in the brooder were too small, but not before one got pecked mercilessly. I have made a much bigger pen for them and separated her. She seems healed, (still...

At the place where I got them they said to keep them under the heat light. I feel like they need to get out too buy my husband still hasn't put the coop together. He will tomorrow. I hope to get them outside. I feel like there are differing opinions out there and my chicks do seem hearty. I...
