Your gray (blue) one looks so much like my gray hen. I've always wondered what she is and never found a picture that quite matches her. She was a rescue hen and the people we got her from didn't know what breed she was either. I will try to get a picture of her posted today and see what...
Glad to see this post! I, too, have gotten many "bullet eggs" and other strangely formed eggs with crusty bumps or one soft spot and some that even look a bit wavy! I thought my hens were straight from the twilight zone! HA!
My new ducklings love being out amongs the chickens, but we lock them up separately at night so far. I lock the chickens in their house each night and tote the ducks back to their pen in the garage. When they are a bit older I am hoping to pen them all in together in the hen house and fence...
Ha! So cute! Our little ducks won me over quickly....so cute to watch their characteristics! They are just starting to sprout "true feathers" but I am amazed at how quickly they grow. What age do they produce eggs? Can you also tell me if we need to have a separate coop for them or will they...
I am the proud new owner of two rouen ducklings! I am so thankful for this sight but appreciate your posting most of all right now. Had no idea how to tell if I had females before this. Thank you!
I was going to post pic very much like this today! When my husband brought it in we both just stared at it for the longest time and we're almost scared to eat it. I told him it looked like it stayed in her a little too long! Most bizarre egg we've ever gotten.
I opened the chicken windows (where we gather our eggs) yesterday morning to find a possum curled up in the hay!! Imagine my surprise. He must have gotten in there the night before and we didn't see him when we locked up our coop. Can't believe he just went to sleep and didn't kill any of our...
A bird I just received from someone moving has bloody stool. Your post is so well explained and informative...it's almost idiot proof. I say, "almost" because I have not tried it yet. LOL! Thanks for the info!
I'm looking for advice on my Frizzle. I noticed a couple of weeks ago one side of her chest was swollen and red. Now it has progressed to be quite swollen, bruised/purple looking, and now she's even lost the feathers on one side of her head. Anyone had this problem or have any suggestions to...
We just started raising chickens this past year and I LOVE them! But, being new to all of this, I am not sure which breeds I have. If I post pics, can any of you try to identify them? The one I'm most curious about is my most beautiful chicken and I think she's an Orpington!
