I brought home a few different chicks from different people. Only to find out later that one of the places I got my silkies from was dealing with lice and other issues. Could my chicks have inherited some kind of disease? Is there any cure? I have this one chick separated inside the house...
Thanks for your reply!😊 I am located Ontario Canada. I think vet care will have to be a option at this point because of how fast it has spread, we can't seperate the infected to treat. Now we have to treat the whole flock.
Another question: in the same coop my brother has a corner sectioned...
I don't think the coop has ventilation... but is a fairly big coop that has lots of space. But i will talk with him about adding a ventilation systems 😊
Yes my brother has added 25 new additions on Sunday and like 15 were introduced before that. So do you think the stress of adding new chickens could have caused the bacteria?)
I am posting this add concerning my brothers flock. He has noticed lately that his chickens have been sneezing and have runny noses. It started off with just one and now most of the flock has runny noses or is sneezing. So whatever they have has spread through the flock very quickly. I had a...
Ok Thank-you for your response I'm researching about it now. The only thing that I'm concerned about is that it's very toxic to cats and i let my cat free roam about the yard all day. There is no way for him to get inside the coop and he never goes in their run.
Yes it's mixed in their dust bath with peat moss. I've read that it won't get rid of them completly but enough that it will keep them at bay and the hens can manage the rest. Just curious, what do you use to manage lice and mites for your birds? Or what would you recommend i use instead? I'm...
I agree and disagree. The Diatomaceous earth that I use is fresh water 100% food grade (edible for both human and chickens). It is completly natural and a much better option than chemicals used to kill lice and mites, which can have extreme negative effects on chickens. I do agree with you that...
Also i got this hen as a adult and don't know what she was fed as a chick... I've always feed my chicks non medicated feed. Always striving to feed them as natural as possible😊
A week ago i noticed some signs of poultry lice and mites so i checked my hens and found some. I dusted all my chickens with food grade diatomaceous earth and added it to their dust bath. I try and keep everything as natural as possible for them.
I was thinking my silkie might have a vitamin...
HELP! MY HEN HAS LOST HER BALLENCE!
last night i found one of my silkie hens sitting on the ground outside the coop. Very unusual... since it was dark and all the rest of my chickens we inside sleeping. So i picked her up and brought her over to their food and water dish to make sure she ate...
Update:
I bought some vitamins, mostly vitamin A from my local feed store that came in a packet to dissolve in their water. I've read that this should help them through this painful two weeks. I've decided to treat the whole flock. I'll keep you updated on how it goes.
