XseankelleyX,
If you know you had a day or two of unstable chick temps I would let things ride and see how they turn out. I could see into my dy egg all day and thought for sure there was no movement, and then a bit ago they were happily wiggling around. i think they sleep between big bursts, so...
Vent sexing. It wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. I gave mine a swim first, because then tend to 'go' in water. That way no unfortunate accidents. ;) Ducks, for me at least seem a lot easier than chickens.
Blondie34,
Did you notice if he was shrink wrapped during the eggtopsy? Normally if I can see that well on candling the definition of the chick/whitespace that is what I assume. It may be an odd shadow on the egg though, or my monitor being weird. With you others hatching right on time, and with...
Have you thought about trying the float test? sometimes that will show a bit of movement when candling won't. It will also give them a little burst of humidity. Make sure you don't have any external pips before you start. http://www.avianaquamiser.com/posts/Float_test_of_egg_viability/. The only...
This one is a bit strange so I hope someone who has done assisted hatch before will chime in. The zip line has grown which allows me to see the inner membrane. I have been keeping it moist, ....but there are no veins there. Almost as if it is a second air sac, or void created by the chick at the...
Sometimes a drop in temp will add an extra day or so to incubation time. Accounting for that you might be right on schedule. How does the aircell look? further down than you have seen it? Or way down the egg? My last incubated set of eggs didn't pip until day 25/26 so you may be ok. If chicks...
I meant to add that your goal is to ONLY remove the shell at this point, not the membrane. Its likely that there will be many vessels still full of blood up there. You can wet the membrane with warm water to get a better look at the situation.
You can definitely use a paper towel or cloth to pres and stop the bleeding. when all things go "right" the chicks head should be on the lowest side of the aircell, thats textbook so it could be anywhere. I would get the bleeding stopped as best as i can, candle the egg to look for the air cell...
I have a double yolked e/e that is pipped and 3/4 zipped right now. Its an odd zip because only the external shell is broken, not yet the internal membrane but both babies are still moving. I am taking that as a good sign. I already have experience with semi-successful assisted hatching and knew...
Nance,
From what I have read and experienced eggs can vary wildly in hatch time from pip. 10-30 hours they can also vary in yolk absorption, some may absorb before outer shell pip and others after. You have a really good zip there. If you can see baby moving, or hear chirping I would just let...
Congrats on a great hatch! Your new babies are too cute. I recently purchased four ducks (pekins) and then learned how to sex them. I ended up with 3 females and one male. I have 17 out of setting 23 that are ready for hatch during the next few days and a double yolker that has pipped and is...
Today is day 19 (barely) of my hatch. I used the dry method of incubating this time and things look much better than before. Hubby and I were talking about the fact that it was time to go into lockdown. We pulled the eggs out for the last time to candle and mark air sacks and noticed that we had...
Greetings from Missouri Sheila! I am new here to. BYC is a great place to learn, and please share what you know as well! Can never have too much knowledge, right? I hope you are enjoying the Memorial Day weekend and the pretty weather.
Thank you Aart! I think I needed my cache to clear before I could see it properly.
I candeled the surprise eggs today (day 3) and all 22 plus the ee/ee double yolker have growth. I was so excited because the eggs I bought from the feed store were super cold and I am sure they were...
