First time chicken owner here. I have 4 pullets that are 14 weeks old today. All Easter eggers. I noticed their legs look a little flaky. Am I looking at the beginning of scaly leg mites? Or is this normal? I would appreciate any advice! Thanks!!
I'm in New England so it is too early for the helicopter things. I figured since they're all eating and drinking that it probably isn't that serious. But since these are my first hens I got a little nervous. Especially since I wasn't home and I dont know exactly what happened. I'm thinking they...
So I came home from work and found all 4 of my hens with dried blood on their beaks. One worse then the others. 3 of them are just superficial and I'm not concerned about them. My Maple is a little worse off. Seems the very tip of the top beak broke off. Her dried blood area is larger and...
Someone on fb shared that they just pile hay in the corner and their birds make a nest out of it. I wouldn't be putting full size enclosed nest boxes in there. As of now I'm just gathering ideas to figure out what will work until I can put an add on exterior next box on there.
Yes, I'm the possible mold person lol. There is enough room for two nest boxes in there. I would ultimately like to add a little addition onto the side of the coop for nest boxes with a hatch roof for egg collecting. I dont want to take on too much all at once so that will have to be a future...
I know 😔 I plan to be a helicopter parent lol and my husband will be there as well. It wouldn't be for very long... just enough for them to get out for some exercise and scratch around. Thanks for all the advice!
That is actually what my master plan is... the carport that I'm putting up is going to act as sun and rain protection. Over the next month or two I'm going to be fully enclosing it and making it predator proof. We'll see how quickly I'll be able to do that... my garden will be needing me to wake...
They do go into the coop on their own at dusk. They put themselves to bed and I just close them in. The run is attached to the coop but only 4'x8'. They're itching to get out! I am planning to put a 4' fence that stretches from our house to the property fence so they wouldn't be able to get to...
How long did you have your chickens before allowing free range? How old were they?
I have 4 pullets that will be 12 weeks old on saturday. I've had them for 3.5 weeks. They're getting pretty good about coming to me when I call them/shake their scratch bag. I'm wondering when I can let them out...
