Thanks all for the advice. My brooder box in the shed with heat lamp should provide all that the peeps need for the next few weeks. They can get to know the others at a more appropriate time.
They are 3 days old. I have supplemental heat and food available for them if I were to use the coop. The advice that I was given was to put them in the coop at night right away. The thought being that the older laying hens would think that the peeps were their own.
I just came home with 3 Barred Rock Peeps. My plan was to raise them in a brooder and slowly integrate them into the flock of 3 one-year old hens (2x Orpington and 1x Ameraucana).
However I was also advised to put them into the hen house at night with the hens to "trick" them into thinking...
I built a chicken coop for my family out of an old deck and shed. It's constructed from about 75% recycled materials. I really like it. However, I fear that its a little too small. It has a 4'x6' run and a 3'x4' coop with and additional 3'x1' of nesting boxes.
