Coop is done...how tall to build chicken run for silkies

My husband finished converting a playhouse into our coop. Now we need to make the run. It is for silkies only. Its going to be a 4x4 run. I am wondering if i can make the run only 17 inches tall? Its about 17 inches to the bottom gray part of the coop. Too short? Also i am wondering if i should...

Roost bar and nesting box for this plastic playhouse

Ive actually been reading that silkies do not typically like to roost, especially when they are only with silkies. I am in sunny florida so temps dont get too crazy here. I was thinking they would use nest boxes to get out of the wind.

I am converting this playhouse I got for free into a coop and am halfway done. I am not sure where to put the roost bar and the nesting box. Any suggestions? Also, what to make nesting box out of? I have milk crates, and some of the home depot buckets. Too big? Also what about feeder and...

    Hardware for Plastic Playhouse Coop?

I am trying to convert plastic playhouse to coop. The walls are hollow. Do I screw from the interior with screws or should I go all the way through to the exterior with the screw? Or should I use bolts? Do screws hold into the plastic well? What have others done? Can raccoons push on the...

    One hen and one rooster

Would it be hard to incorporate chicks with the two I have if I got new week old silkies? Also, I thought it might be nice to hatch chicks to have that experience and don't want to try in an incubator in case I mess up and hurt a chick or do something wrong accidently and it doesnt hatch right...

    One hen and one rooster

I hope this is the right place to post. I had four silkies and two got killed by a raccoon in my old run. They are about 7 weeks old right now. I did a DNA test for each of the two remaining and I have one boy and one girl (which is exactly what I thought they were). I am thinking to keep the...

    Plastic Playhouse Chicken RUN

Well they were chicks about a month old and it was just getting dark and i ran inside to grab something. When i came back out Two were dead and one had its wing ripped off and i saw the raccoon run away. I understand that chickens would probably be safer in the coop and it was my error to leave...

    Plastic Playhouse Chicken RUN

So if i was to stick the whole thing in a large kennel would i still need to modify the playhouse right to make it weatherproof. Im in sunny florida so winter is no issue but for the rain just cover windows and such with wood? I appreciate everyones responses!

    Plastic Playhouse Chicken RUN

The faded one would be for coop and red and tan for run. But i understand the response about windowless jail cell maybe it should be open. I am just so unhandy the thought of building a run is daunting.
