Hey everyone - sorry I don't get on here much anymore! I prepared the first 3 quail by just rubbing olive oil and putting salt and pepper on them. I baked them at 200 C for 15-20 minutes.
They were absolutely delicious. They were tender and had plenty of moisture.
I'll look at this thread...
Thanks! If you guys have any ideas on how to prepare them let me know I just asked on the quail thread

I just butchered my Coturnix quail and am trying to figure out the best way to prepare them. They have so little meat that they definitely need more to go with them. Even though they are small I only want to do one per person (trying to reduce meat intake). I was thinking about trying to...
So I know in an ideal situation you should remove feed anywhere from 12-48 hours before butchering them. However DH and I are currently living with relatives and they would like them gone. Like really want them gone, which is why I don't even want to wait until tomorrow. It's very kind of them...
I don't have emus myself, so hopefully someone with experience can either confirm or correct me, but from what I've read the emus have to be 4 months to use the feathers (http://aea-emu.org/node/109) but you could still do blood. Also, you should be able to tell the gender by looking at the...
I'm so sorry to hear about your chicken! It really is always hard to lose one of the girls :/
I'd definitely get her a friend or two, they really need company. I'd try for one around a similar age, give or take a couple months.
With my limited experience, the younger birds merged easier, vs when they were older. I'd say once they are fully feathered to go for it, but since the silkies will always just be fuzz, you could try for it now, before the barred rocks get older.
One idea is to wait two weeks, and then put...
When I introduced birds, I had them in the separate cage, next to the chicken run, I think just 2-4ish days maybe? It's was a long time ago, so maybe I gave them more time, I'm not quite sure. What you can do is try a couple days in the cage, then put them all together and see how it goes...
Congrats on the marriage and new home!
That seems like a pretty good plan! Black australorps are one of those breeds that you can use for both egg laying or meat, but they take about 5 months, I think, while cornish cross are more like 6 weeks or so. Some prefer the taste of birds that...
Hey all! I currently have 2 male coturnix that are in need of a new home. They hatched on April 13th, so as of tomorrow (5/25/16) they will be 6 weeks old. I'm located in the Coatesville/Honey Brook area of Pennsylvania.
