    I've already lost one duck!

My step daughter is looking to rehome some ducks, but I was only going to take one for Sylvie because she is used to just one more, and I didn't want them to gang up on her since they were raised together. Or is that not an issue with ducks like with chickens?

    I've already lost one duck!

She shows no other signs of illness and the eye worm is gone. She eats, drinks, and swims like normal. This is our second year together and I never went through molting with them before, nor had any illness. Buttercup did have a foot injury last year but I nursed her through it and she was fine...

    I've already lost one duck!

Two days ago I found one of my only two ducks, I raised together since they were ducklings (two years old now), dead in the their pool. Two weeks prior to that she stopped laying eggs, and then started losing feathers like crazy. Otherwise, she seemed completely healthy and normal, eating and...

My chickens eat leftovers which have included French fries and other cooked potatoes. I’ve never had any problems. Maybe they can’t eat raw potatoes?

21 Expensive Chickens Killed By 2 Dogs

I just saw that this original post was in December of 2018! Haha. However, reading through this conversation string, I am strangely comforted after the loss of another natural born chick. My flock is a little more than a year old and I had no desire to add to it. However, when one of the hens...

21 Expensive Chickens Killed By 2 Dogs

This is AWFUL. There is your grief, and the loss you will feel, and the financial investment and your time. Imagine if they were YOUR DOGS! That’s what happened to ME. My blue healer got into the coop and killed a brooder. It was devastating then, and caused me to have to build a chicken run and...

How do you store your eggs?

I use a countertop spiral so I know which are the oldest to newest. But that’s for now when I’m only getting 5-7 per day and using them or giving them to family. Once the rest of the 20 hens start laying, I’ll be selling them. I’ll keep them in cartons and in the fridge in the garage.

Found a racing pigeon and the owner doesn't care

I am sad to report that my new boarder, the racing pigeon, hasn’t been seen around here for a couple of days. She may have flown the coop! She did this once before and I thought we’d seen the last of her but she reappeared after a day or so. Do they do this? I hope she’s not gone for good this time.

Brand New to Chickens in 2018

I read that about Heelers. She is eager to please but messes up once in awhile. When I chase the chickens off my patio and deck, she gets into it and has a tough time disengaging once they are cleared. Other than that, I haven’t had any problems with her. She is scheduled to go away to “doggy...

Brand New to Chickens in 2018

Got my first chicks in Feb 2018 through mail order (30 total). All but 6 died (most in transit)! Bought more through the local feed store in April to replace the ones that died. Lost 6 more (3 to our 5 month old Blue Healer puppy who just wanted to play), then bought a rooster from a local...

Found a racing pigeon and the owner doesn't care

The SAME thing happened to us! A pigeon joined our chickens about a month ago. She roosts in the chicken house at night. So, I was able to catch her and read her leg band. Turns out she is a champion racing pigeon out of Florida. I’ve written to her owner via Facebook Messenger with no response...
