    Well the egg wasn't a dud but the chick didn't make it. It started hatching sometime between Friday night and yesterday afternoon. I went out to check on her late yesterday and there was a piece of shell beside her but no chick under her. Looked to the other end of the coop and the dead chick...

    Thanks, Looking around at the section here on Candling the egg might have a chance. I picked it up a few days ago and called myself candling it with a small maglite inside my hand with the egg sitting on top and it looks like the one with the air cell. I do have a matching White Silkie...

    Broody Silkie on a dud egg

    Shortly after my White silkie hen started laying she went broody and has been sitting on what I think is a Dud for 3 weeks now. Any advice on what I should do. She seems fairly persistent to see it through but it seems pointless. Just let nature take its course? Thanks. Steve
