Hen w/Sketchy Feathers - no molt - no new growth! Help!

Eggcessive - no not starting to molt. She had a moderate molt late spring, and there is no indication of another molt. No lost feathers - only the downy part of the feathers remain. She has regular access to dust baths where others bathe all the time (under a covered shed with dirt and gravel...

Hen w/Sketchy Feathers - no molt - no new growth! Help!

I need to watch this thread. I do not want to hijack the thread but I have a Wayandotte that is in the same situation. Plenty of room, no stress, plenty of egg layer food, not molting (have had chickens for 18 years - I know a molting chicken), no rooster, 4 oz scratch before bed as a treat for...

    Skinny hen losing more weight

Thank you for the reply, but what you can not see is that there is muscle atrophy. If I pick her up, it feels like she does not have any breast muscle at all and weighs 1/2 the weight of the other birds of the same breed. You can see and feel her sternum clear as day. I am wondering if she does...

    Skinny hen losing more weight

I have 8 - 21 month hens, and one has been sick for about 2 weeks now. She wants to behave fine - meaning she eats, drinks, follows other birds etc, but appears to almost be starving. She is coming very slowly (4 weeks) out of a hard molt. When she walks, she is walking like a drunk sailor...

    Tylan 50 dose?

Bump. I would like to know the answer to this as well. Does not make sense that you can, in a way, but some are saying 3/4 cc per bird orally. Not sure how else it would be done. I have one sick bird with bumblefoot and now needs an antibiotic. I do not want to treat the whole flock - there is...

Bumblefoot - Did surgery, now needs antibiotics - Which one?

Need to give my bird an antibiotic since I can not get rid of her bumblefoot: here was my other thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1155527/i-thought-bumblefoot-but-not-sure-now Someone suggested penicillin pro-pen-g. Is that the correct one to use? My tractor supply has these ...

I thought bumblefoot, but not sure now.

Thank you very much for the reply. It has been wrapped with a vet wrap underneath was gause which covered the scan that formed when I removed it the first time. I really dug around in there and thought that I removed everything. I even flushed out the hole with the wound wash to make sure...

I thought bumblefoot, but not sure now.

So I have been cleaning the feet and one foot is great, the other one not so much. She is limping and favoring it more and more, especially over the last 2 days. Good foot: The bad foot: I feel bad. She is walking, but does not scratch with that foot. She limps and will sit often or...

I thought bumblefoot, but not sure now.

@azygous, I have no avian vets near me that I know of. Would they know what to prescribe if they do not treat birds? Also, what dosage am I looking to give? I am wondering that if the do not know what to give and I ask for x number of pills at 250 mg, they might give it to me. Not sure. 1...

I thought bumblefoot, but not sure now.

Thank you @azygous for a bit of optimism. I am not not opposed to putting her on an antibiotic. If it gets her better, I would do it without hesitation. Do I have to go to a vet for it? Or is that something I can get over the counter somehow? If so, where and how much how often? In the 10...

I thought bumblefoot, but not sure now.

Surgery is complete. I was amazed at how calm the bird was. I know it is a survival mechanism, but I can not believe how calm she was. I was able to get out about a marble's worth of infection. I really hope I got it all as I really do not want to go in again and do that. Not for my discomfort...
