Anyone have a sample letter that they sent to HOA asking to keep BYC?

I am very interested in the same. I have 6 illegals in our backyard/wooded area. The neighbors on both sides are fine with them and love the eggs. I just hope someone out walking doesn't hear the egg song.

    Drinking SunnyD?

Is it bad for chickens to drink SunnyD or juice of any kind? My daughter was fedding some to them and they loved it but I am worried it might be bad...They do seem to like drinking the juice when they are eating tomatos or watermellon...Just wondering if citrus is bad.

    Preparing for sand???

I have to figure out what I did wrong...I dumped the sand over the soil and the girls had dug down to the dirt and combined it all together. I now have a mix of sand and dirt. How deep did you folks make your sand bed so they don't just dig through?

    Training hen to stop crowing...

Quote: With my birds I've always looked at the comb development. If they stay small and don't turn red untill close to 20 weeks they are usually girls. The waddles come out sooner on males as well. You should post some good pics in the Gender section on here. There are also differences in the...

    Training hen to stop crowing...

She is definately a girl and has been laying very well for over a year. She usually only has one "crowing" a day and it's exactly like a roo. She loves her egg song too even if it's the other chicken who lays.

    Training hen to stop crowing...

Has anyone had luck in discouraging their top hen from crowing? I am trying to keep chickens where they are not allowed by our HOA and our top girl lets loose with the crowing on some mornings...I dash outside with handfuls of greens or meal worms to get her to stop. Am I rewarding the behavior...

What age does the peeping turn to clucking?

My first two from last year started around 4 months old...The current chicks born on March 5th are starting to make more big chicken noises. The two D'uccles are really letting out with some "Baaac"s when you grab em too quick. The OEGs are making some other weird noises that sound like a wild...

Cochin Banty Girls? 8 weeks or so...

The d'uccles don't have 5 toes like the silkies. Maybe they are a cross?

Cochin Banty Girls? 8 weeks or so...

Wow! And here I thought they were cochin... I feather sexed them by the wing feathers from the banty bin at TSC. I got lucky with my two OEGs too but my one silkie is a boy. I did find him a good home with a friend who also has silkies. Once they are bigger I will post more pics. Thanks...

    My urban stealth coop ideas

Quote: Thanks, I appreciate that- we just don't know what to expect as far as smell and noise. We'll start with 2 or 3 max, probably get a smallish egg laying breed. We have all bantam breeds...If you are used to 2 eggs on your sammie, you'll need 3 of what our girls lay. About 2/3 the size...

    My urban stealth coop ideas

We also have stealth chickens and have never used laying boxes. I do put straw in the mini coop (looks like a dog house) and the girls make nests like real birds. They do the egg song sometimes. I make sure to give the neighbors on both sides free eggs on a regular basis. Our new coop will just...

First time integrating the little girls with the big girls...

This is our second year with chickens and our 4 new girls are almost 12 weeks old. We will need to put them in with our two big girls soon. They seem to be ok when they are running around for playtime. (We can't free range) But if the one of the little girls gets too close, they get nailed. I...
