There is a farm in Carthage NY that is clearing their laying hens out.
I picked up two hens but that's all I could house. They are very shy but are coming around.

Anyone near Fort Drum? We are looking for fertile eggs close to home. Last year we just bought local eggs and took our chances and had 11/12 fertility. Only had 6 make it to hatch due to our inexperience but looking to vary the flock.
Pretty sure we have some coop visitors. Even without free ranging this winter our girls should not be going through this much food. Buckeyes might be next on the hatching list.

I tuck myself in a closet at night and use the 9 LED bulb mini flashlights. Just keep slowly rolling the egg looking for the blood vessels. Even in a dark shell you should be able to spot them by now with a bright enough light. Good Luck! We can't wait to start our hatch for this year.
