    Mass production hens

There is a farm in Carthage NY that is clearing their laying hens out. I picked up two hens but that's all I could house. They are very shy but are coming around. The post is on the Watertown NY Craigslist sight. Search for "1800 chickens" I understand farming but I don't like the battery cage...

    Upstate, NY chicken peeps!

Anyone near Fort Drum? We are looking for fertile eggs close to home. Last year we just bought local eggs and took our chances and had 11/12 fertility. Only had 6 make it to hatch due to our inexperience but looking to vary the flock.

    Humidity help!

I researched it after the fact and found I had actually suffocated them with the high humidity. Oxygen was...

    Candling Egg

I tuck myself in a closet at night and use the 9 LED bulb mini flashlights. Just keep slowly rolling the egg looking for the blood vessels. Even in a dark shell you should be able to spot them by now with a bright enough light. Good Luck! We can't wait to start our hatch for this year.

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I have had that conversation too many times. I have also heard from people that politely take the free eggs and throw them out. Grrrr!
