My flock is mixed. I have 7 housed in technically room for 9 or 10. Four are from the original group and are two years old. Three were added spring of last year.
I can't free range either.
I've treated for mites, I've rehomed (brown leghorns and black Sumatra breeds never ever again), I've...
@DobieLover She’s been doing the broody clucks for about a week or so. There was a day or two where she wasn’t the first one to the treats as she usually is.
But she’s back at bowling everyone over like a steamroller to get to the cucumber slices today. And her face/comb are getting redder...
I’ve also seen people posting in local Facebook groups for tree companies to come drop off chips.
ChipDrop isn’t very active in my area either and I may just call the company that did our trees to let them know if they are in the area they can dump at my place. My pile is starting to get low...
I haven’t actually witnessed her poop. All the poop under the roosts on the poop board looks pretty much normal if somewhat watery in a couple spots.
But we have had some hot days so they are drinking more plus I’ve been giving them excess cucumbers from my garden so mushy poops aren’t...
Can a hen go broody with out camping on a nest?
I have a wheaten marans hen that stopped laying, her comb got pale, and she started making the ticking timebomb (or so I like to call them) broody clucks when walking around.
But she has not picked a nest to monopolize. She's still out in the...
I’m in Northeastern PA. I use the wood chips left behind when we had a bunch of oaks cut down on our property.
I’ve also used undyed pine bark nuggets from Home Depot in their temporary run a few years ago.
Both options work well for me.
@Wyorp Rock Great info, thank you!
So maybe the extra calcium one got stuck mid turn and the second thin shelled one “crashed” into it.
I’ll keep an eye on her. I’m hoping it’s a one off glitch caused by my switching to an all flock feed for about a month or so to get a higher protein into...
I have only one dark brown egg layer (a wheaten marans) so I know for a fact both of these came from one hen in a less than 24 hr period.
The egg on the left was laid last night around 1am while they were on the roost. When I got home from work I picked it up out of the poop tray and looked on...
Since we are doing PSA's and safety announcements...
Do not use peroxide to make your pet vomit if they get ahold of rat poison. Take your dog to your vet or to the vet ER. Vets now have safer methods to make them vomit as peroxide has been shown to cause stomach and esophageal ulcers.
Would it be too much to ask for the ads to not dynamically resize themselves....constantly? I think I'm clicking one topic in a forum listing and in the half second it takes to click, an ad loads and shifts the page up or down and I either click a different topic or more disingenuously an ad...
