I am not a "cat person", but the cat in your profile pic is quite stunning!
Welcome to the forum! Have you decided what breed (s) of chickens you will focus on?
I am in the Parkersburg, WV area. I have project Americauna/Easter Eggers, Silkies, and have added a new love... Belgian...
Just wanted to post my hatch. DIY incubator, 18 set, 14 successfully hatched, one failed pip. Not too bad for light bulb failure mid-way through incubation. Temp fell to 60's and eggs were cool. I so appreciate the encouragement I received here... THANK YOU ALL
Thanks so much for the encouragement, CashandTracy! Honestly, these eggs take on the persona of a whole 'nother entity in the house, long before they hatch!
Less than a week to go to see for sure who made it...
Subhanalah, I know the "just poop" feeling after discovering my incubator bulb burned out sometime this past Sunday... poop!!! The temp was in the 60s in the incubator, and eggs were cool to the touch Mine will be 14 days tomorrow. I am hoping for a hatch... but not holding my breath. *sigh*
I just set eggs Ash Wednesday March 5th as a warm-up to do the Easter Hatch-a-long. It doesn't leave me much time between the two, but the 'Bator has been in storage since last year, and I wanted to get it calibrated well... plus I only have three precious silky hens left (Coopers Hawks last...
It would not seem like Easter without the Hatch-a-long! I was going to set a test batch yesterday, but we had ice storms predicted, so I held off in case there were power outages. The test batch will be my own Silkie, Ameraucana, and a few Buff Orpington cross brown eggs. I have had to check...
Hay Beekissed, Minmin, & Eggorthechicken :D
I met some great folks who ride &I drive horses on The North Bend Rail Trail...I think they were from Freeport.
Are you all going to do the Easter Hatch-a-long?
Going to add a pic to this, just because I figured out how to do it with my phone;D
I am in Walker, WV (just outside Parkersburg). I am hoping to get my first hatch of the year in now, and be ready to join in the Easter Hatch-a-long.
I have a few silkies, some Americaunas, and some Buff Orpington crossed with red production sex links. Going to see if I can add a pic of my white...
Just wanted to post a couple of pics of some interesting splash cockerels I hatched from BBS parents. I freaked a bit when I first noticed the deep red coloring on their wings, as it looks very much like blood. The red feathers are only on the wings, and only on the two cockerel. The one BBS...
Guess I am not alone...we made a cooler incubator especially for this hatch with a new wafer thermostat...not so much as a pip so far from 39. Can't even blame it on shipped eggs...aaargh:(
We had to make a new cooler 'bator to do this hatch, as we have a variety of Americaunas (lav, splash, etc.) and Lav Orpingtons due to hatch in the old one tomorrow. The pictured eggs were set after noon...22 of a variety of Silkies (Thanks to WVStruttin'!) and 2 Black Dutch, and 15 of our own...
