Is it possible to train chickens not to go near cats!?!?

Hi. Is it possible to keep roosters where you live? If so I know Rhode Island Red roosters a very territorial. He would let the cat know its not o.k. and the cat may learn to avoid the hens. If thats not an option a fence with an electric wire on top may be the next option. I hope the cat...

New To The BYC in Fort Pierce Fl

Hello and welcome. If the coop is to be just used for a night time roost then 12 is o.k. Especially if you have a cold wintertime climate. Then they can keep each other warm. If this is more than you wanted then at least keep four ,for, warmth this winter. If your coop is also the size of your...

Naked Neck Turken has had a cold for at least two weeks

Hi. I would isolate him or her first. Then give her some duramyacin. It comes in a packet about the size of your hand and is in powder form. It mixes in with their water and looks like mountain dew with a little foam. The whole packet is around $5. It takes very little mixed in with the water...

    swollen eye photos - diagnosis?

Hi. Just pull the eyelid apart and see if there is any foreign body, then ,flush with water. If there isn't anything there it may be that she was pecked in the eye. Isolate her and see if she gets better. God Bless you hen.

    Injured Rooster...

Definitely, give the poor thing a quiet and possibly shaded spot where it can be alone. Plently of water that it may choose to drink . Just make him feel safe. God Bless your rooster.

    Skin healing

Hi. I've had this type of tear with my hens when an older rooster mounts them with very long spurs. It usually took my hens three to four weeks to heal the skin ,and, then there would still be a small scab. Isolating her where the sore can heal on its own is best and keep the neosporin handy...

Runny nose and pale head features

Hi. Pale parts are an indicator of a hen that is laying very well ( known as bleaching) Alot of times when we bring one home it upsets her enough for her to stop laying for a few days until she feels safe at her new home. Just keep an eye on her stool, it may be also she is not used to her new...

My poor Hens are dying. I think it is Face Mites, but the treatments aren't working.

It really sounds like you've tried everything. I think your doing good and since the other treatments didn't work I would have your local vet do an autopsy on one of your birds. They will probably want the most recently deceased. I'm sure rates will vary ,but our local vet charges around $30. It...
