    Plymouth Rock thread!

Very impressive, I wish I had access to such a breeding line. Although the hatchery quality ones lay quite proficiently, they just do not have the same impressive features as a breeder quality ones.

    Sexing Rhode Island Reds

I did some research, and breeder quality Rhode Island Reds are quite a bit more darker than what I'm used to with is hatchery quality.

    I love me a leghorn!

She doesn't seem like she's Broody, no aggressive behavior or puffing up. She doesn't go there for long. One more curious behavior trait is that when I go inside to try to pet her she squats like all my laying hens, yet no eggs abound. Now I don't mind at all that she might be resting for a...

Topic of the Week - Winter Egg Laying

My six chickens haven't slowed down at all during the winter. I do have supplemental lighting for them, but the amazing thing is that they're all molting and are still laying at the same rate. That is absolutely amazing to me. I however do take very good care of them.

What's the temperature where you are???

I'm in Henry IL, the temperature is 3 degrees but feels like -11. The chickens are doing well, this is my second year of keeping chickens. Last year was difficult winter, trial and error trying what works and what doesn't but this year was much easer. I had everything prepared ahead of time and...
