Nest 2 which is on day 49 had 9 eggs of which one had that water sound of a rotten egg but all the others seem viable. I did the cool test on 3 random eggs and all stayed warm (except where the air sac is of course) and two started moving! The second nest has potential for a lot of babies...

What are the average amount of days a male emu takes to hatch eggs naturally? I've set my calendar to 55 days, which is when I'll be home frequently for the babies. I know incubators are faster.

Unfortunately I'll be at university for the next few weeks so I won't be able to provide weekly data, however, whenever I come home I'll keep ye up to date. They're content now and I'm comfortable enough leaving for university knowing nothing will cause any issues. I'll be home every weekend...

Yes I helped build the nest as they started brooding. I noticed that they don't like nest change when they're breeding and laying. I used dried up dead dock leaf plant material. They don't like hay as it doesn't dry up when it rain's. I also did it as they seemed to move more into the field...

It's my first time naturally hatching emu chick's so my information would not be as good as others in this form! I would advise keeping an eye on where they lay, making sure it's flood proof. One of my males also stopped brooding last year as his nesting site got really muddy due to his female...

It was almost every 15 minutes he would stand up and pick every leaf, branch in the nest radius to put in his nest, and I think it was due to the nest being a bit wet but both males are now properly set and aren't moving so that's a good sign. Both females laid an egg each in their partner's...

So last night we had intense rain and a bit of the nest was flooded that Vladimir is brooding on now. I dug a little drain-way so it doesn't happen again. The flood wasn't that bad but the bottom of the nest was a bit wet though the eggs were mostly dry. Will the eggs be okay? Vladimir kept...

Taken last week. The pairs are never this close to one another except winter when I feel them. They always keep their distance. Once all the food is eaten, one pair chases the other away 🏃🏻
