Those are some pretty birds. Thanks to everyone on trying to define "pricey". I'm in Northern California and raise chicks from the local feed store and sell them when they lay their first egg for $20, and those are just barred rocks or whatever. So I was expecting them to be well over $100...

Hi. Sorry for the delay. Having computer issues. I put out a soup bowl size for the racoons just before bed on the front porch, and the same size on the trail used by the bobcat at night. I think they are like any animal...why hunt if you don't have to?

Freedom Rangers - I need to split an order with locals near El Dorado Co. California

The Freedom Ranger Hatchery only sells that one breed but requires a minimum order of 25. If you're near El Dorado County in California and would like to go in with me on an order I'd really appreciate it. I think it will about $3 per chick.

Luv this site & the help that's here!

Welcome. I doddled around this site for over a year too before creating an account. Sounds like your birds are very fortunate to have such a thoughtful owner!

    New Member Here.

Hello and Welcome from California! We did the same thing when we first started raising chickens. Our feed store had a sale that you get 12 free chicks with a bag of chick starter, so we bought 3 bags. WELL... they were so little so it didn't seem like that big of a deal, I could hold like 6 in...

Welcome- I have an assortment of egg layers, a breeding pair of Black Copper French Marans, and do raise meat birds in good weather. I'm just getting into the dairy goats and sheep this spring - that will be a whole new ballgame. You must spend a lot of time in Florida to have animals...

I was at Clifton Warren yesterday. Not knowing where they kept the chicks I figured I'd follow my ears... but no sound! My son knew where they are usually kept, all they had were Barred Rock, and they were totally silent. That was just too weird for me. I've never seen silent chicks before. On...
