for those that are really interested, this is the "swedish country club" that actually manages the gene bank for swedish flower hens http://www.kackel.se/lantras_hons.html
here is what they say about the breed:
"Skånsk blommehöna
From the Sydskånska plain will this our largest native breed...
honestly, I have no idea...he was perfectly fine and healthy...also do not think anything could've gone in there....just now trying to find out where I could have a necropsy done...he was so beautiful...miss him already...RIP
i will let you know, will keep you in mind though
does anybody know where near Tennessee one can have a free necropsy done?
I know that several universities do it for free, but they seem to be too far away
yes, I am thinking 3or 4 of them will be crested (there is 6 in total), 1 of them hatched 2 days later than all the others and is not just crested but has a vaulted skull [i know most people don't like that, but I actually do)....will try to post some pictures of the others later, they are all...
they definitely are eye candy...and so freakin friendly...I LOVE MY SFHs...I love the different colors...at the moment I have 6 little chicks as well (they are like 3 weeks or so old now) and I'm absolutely loving the colors they are getting, so purrdy....
ok it's enough now...we do not have to make a discussion about this, please...besides this was a post between me and someone else...let's keep this thread enjoyable and about this wonderful breed the Swedish Flower Hens!
sorry, if I misunderstood you, but I get quite worked up when hearing breeder talk. (like I said before I have Jack Russells and am quite active in the doggie world, and have to hear and read so much booboo from some breeders that I don't have a lot of patience in that department anymore!)
And...
I don't think anybody said that swedish flower hens are not a "breed" or a "real breed"....The only thing they are NOT is a "breed" that can be put into a "breed standard" of perfection like other "breeds" of chicken, as they come in a variety of types. There is no need to change anything or act...
