How to protect from hawks free range chickens?

Do you hope or you had a good experience with "Leige Fighters" protecting your flock?

How to protect from hawks free range chickens?

You absolutely right, I've had hawks that would attack my chickens right in front of me and I also had an incident when a hawk would attack my girls while they were hidden under the thick bushes.

How to protect from hawks free range chickens?

Guys, I know this item has been discussed, but I wonder from your personal experience, what if anything worked for you to protect your free-range chickens from hawks? I've tried tying up CDs to nearby trees, and tried putting other reflective and wind-sounding tapes on the branches. Tried...

My broody quail hatched baby quails, now what? Help please.

I ended up helping one chick break through his egg. Came back in two hours and the chick was again about a foot from the hen (why the heck they are not staying with the hens, beats me). It was barely alive. I put it under the heating plate in the separate brooder. In few hours it became active...

My broody quail hatched baby quails, now what? Help please.

As of now, I have pretty much separated the brooding box with hens from most of the flock in the enclosed quail coop. The temperature inside this coop is much higher when it is outside. I also provided water and crashed boiled quail eggs as food in the brooding box. I was really hoping that...

My broody quail hatched baby quails, now what? Help please.

Hi guys, I have about 55 quails in a rather large aviary set up. Three of my quails went broody sometime mid-March. I marked 15 eggs and let them sit on it. I have not been to the aviary for the last two days, but this morning when I went to collect the eggs and check if there is the...

    Quails hatching their own eggs?

Can anyone have luck of getting their jumbo quails to hatch their own youngsters? Maybe some breeders have had a luck of getting wild genes introduced to the domestic birds to have their brood and hatch their own youngsters?

From 30 eggs per day to 6 in two days, why?

No, I have it all enclosed in 1/4" wire mesh, including at least 6-10" dug it under the soil. Plus I think rats or mice would leave traces of discarded egg shells. Nothing like that. I did have a hawk week or so ago seating on top of the aviary, but by than the egg production already dropped...

From 30 eggs per day to 6 in two days, why?

Nothing really changed in the last 30 days. Back at the end of June or beginning of July, I separated excess males (I've had 27 females and 20 males) into a separate enclosure. Other than that notihng else changed and I believe we do have more than 16 hours of day light.

From 30 eggs per day to 6 in two days, why?

Hey guys, new quail owner here. Have 27 females and 9 males in the aviary. They were all hatched in April. I was getting up to a 30 eggs per day in June and July, but in August egg production started slowly diminishing. In the last three to four weeks I am only gathering 6-10 eggs per every two...

Help, guinea has a baseball like swelling tumor at the rear end

I am sad to report that this Saturday my lavender girl was killed by a red shoulder hawk :-(. She was actually seating on the nest laying an egg when it happened, I noticed that hawk too late to save her :-(. Strangely, her male companion who has always been lurking next to the nest while she...

Help, guinea has a baseball like swelling tumor at the rear end

Surprisingly she is not showing any discomfort, she still lays, eats, and do daily strolls around the property with her "boyfriend". However, I do see that it has gotten bigger and I am afraid pretty soon I will have to make an unpleasant decision.

My quails are soooo loud, especially in early morning

So, basically, I should have no more than 7 males to my 32 hens? I was thinking of keeping 10 roosters as an insurance policy...
