Thank you for your reply! Yes, the Welsummer kept the peace which is why I keep thinking it had a particular impact on the Cochin. We have a tunnel, made out of hardware cloth, that goes between the run and coop. After we found the injury we did notice that there was a clump of feathers in...
Yeah, that’s definitely my concern 😕. There are times that they co-exist and then there’s other times that the Australorp is asserting her dominance. What time not sure about is whether this time had anything to do with the loss in our flock.
We think we have some reordering going on in our small flock and not sure how to manage bullying behavior.
We had a flock of 3, 1 Welsummer, 1 Australorp, and 1 Bantam Cochin. They would have all been 3 years in July of this year. They were bought and raised together from 1 day old. Our bantam...
Hello! We have a very similar situation going on. We had a flock of 3, but our head hen past about 2 weeks ago and think there could be a reordering. Our Cochin who’s been bullied in the past by our Australorp in the past and the lowest in the pecking order, was found yesterday with what look...
I went out today and have found a couple of poops with what looks more like “blood” than coral urates, but I’m not sure. Continuing to monitor but definitely still concerned. The avian vet that we go to has been out of office for the past week, but not sure what other interventions I should take.
Thank you! They are hard to tell in the picture, but there are pin feathers on her neck where the feathers are missing.
Oh, I hadn’t heard of coral colored Urates before. Definitely will continue to monitor.
I have a 2 year old welsummer hen that has had small amounts of blood in her poop for the past 2 weeks (pictures below). I finished treating them for worms with Safegaurd for goats about 5 days ago and did the emergency dosage of cord at the same time. Now I have them on the 7-14 day lower...
Thank you so much! The article is super helpful. I’ll definitely keep an eye on the bottom of the wattles as well. We have had some irritable/broody ladies lastly so maybe a pecking injury.
Hello! I was wondering if anyone could help me diagnose whether this is dry fowl pox or not, pictures below. I had 3 chickens, the hen below has is the worse, and the other two seem to have a few smaller spots. Their energy seems fine, eating/drinking, and haven’t seen any bumps in their mouths...
Thank you so much for the response. I’ve been monitoring her and have oyster shells/egg shells offered 24/7. I think you were right about her getting the hang of it. Haven’t had a soft shell since the one I posted about and she seems to be production eggs on a more regular schedule.
Thank you so much!!
It does seems to be getting worse. Previously at night her poop looked relatively normal, but last night it seems much more watery (picture below)
I also just went out to them just now and she went in front of me, which looks suspicious.
Thank you so much for your reply! I’m gonna try and give her some yogurt tomorrow. She laid her third egg today and seems quite stressed about it so I’m thinking that may be playing a role
Hi! I am hoping I could get some help.
I have a Welsummer that is about 6.5 months old who just started laying this past Wednesay, 2/1. For the past 2-3 days she’s had these loose/watery brown poop (picture below).
For about a few weeks, I’ve slowly been introducing layer feed (from local...
