    Rhode Island Reds/Americana Club!

Ameraucana is Lupe :P The rest of the crew: Polly (polish), Yvette (cochin) and a buckeye who has yet to be named (most recent addition to the flock). Benedict and Lupe will almost surely lay first, they are way redder than the others. So excited for eggs I can hardly stand it!

    Rhode Island Reds/Americana Club!

I have a mixed flock, one RIR named Benedict who is the friendliest of the five. She immediately runs up to me when I go out in the yard, follows me like a puppy, and may accidentally take a finger off if you hand feed grapes or tomato. :) I was told the whitish one next to her was an Ameraucana...

Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

I have one RIR in a mixed flock. She is 22 weeks old and her comb and wattles have been red for about 4 weeks, like seriously red. No eggs yet, though! I have checked the backyard thoroughly and no hidden eggs. How long after the reddening does the laying start? I am beside myself with anticipation!

    Need advice in Charlotte, NC!

I got five week-old chicks (females) in May. In early June, I applied for the chicken permit, but was told that my other pets all had to be current on their rabies license before they would inspect my coop. No problem for my two personal pets, but I rescue and foster and have taken about 5 other...

    When to start layer feed??

Duckman 14- I am in the exact same situation! One possible roo, two about 15 weeks and one about 12. I just purchased a 50 lb bag of countryside organics layer feed to start them on (ran out of grower and didn't want to buy another 50lb bag since they should start laying soon). Will the layer...

    Hens or Roos?

What about these? All between 12-14 weeks old. I'm pretty sure the two white ones and the red are hens, think the polish may be a roo as he recently developed some red wattles. Any thoughts on breed of the red? i was told she was a comet, but the chicks weren't sex-linked (picked two dark red...

Bald spot on my australorp chick

My appx. 2.5-week-old australorp chick has developed a bald spot on her back. She does not peck at it, the other five chicks in the brooder with her don't peck at her, and it doesn't seem to bother her. It is not red or irritated-looking, but there is a little bit of dry, yellowish crusty stuff...

Hello all! My name is Stephanie and I have just started raising my first urban flock in Charlotte, NC!
