I am a stay at home mom and my husband is in the Navy 20+ years now. Aside from chickens we have two teens, two dogs, and a cat (and a partridge in a pear tree!). We have busy lives!
I am a backyard chicken keeper, and this is my second year with hens. My husband and I built a 4x6 elevated coop with a 10x12 completely enclosed covered run. We also built a fenced "outdoor" run with a 100ft fence connected to the coop and arcing around to connect to the run. Yes, the chickens take up quite a bit of space! Luckily that is only about a 1/4 of our yard lol. I hope to get pictures up soon.
Currently I have 4 hens, two of which are broody. They went broody within days of each other and settled down together in the community nesting box. With no Roo, I got some fertilized eggs from another chicken keeper and placed them in the nest under them. There they have sat, snuggled up together sharing the eggs.
My husband and I blocked off the community nesting box from our other two ladies and separated the coop with hardware mesh, creating what we call the Maternity Ward. They're due on or about 9/24. It will be interesting to see where this goes, more to follow...
