My Husband and I also decided to wing it and after lots of flinging ideas and supplies we ended up with this little gem. Its five feet long by 4 feet deep. I have two nesting boxed attached to outside and can get at the eggs from outside their pen. we enclosed a 200 square foot area for them...
I bought 4 "pullets" from tsc that vary from this color to lighter buff. This guy has a lot of Roo characteristics. I am hoping I am right. after many hours on chicken sights and on here I believe he is a golden comet rooster. He was very light when I bought him the lightest of the bunch. He...
I am pretty sure that this is a cockerel and as you can see he was very patchy in the right photo at 5 weeks now here he ? is at 10 weeks. The reason I believe he is a boy is his face is beginning to become red he is getting wattles under his chin and he is more v shaped than the rest of my...
the buff one looks like my golden comets. the hens have butterscotch colored feathers with patches of white here and there. very friendly and great egg layers all year from what I have read. the other one looks like a gold lace windotte mutt.
everytime I think I have the breed down on my tsc chicks They change. I know the blacks are barred rocks but the buffs ? I think they are red or gold stars but I will wait patiently while they feather out the rest of the way to find out if they all really are pullets and what flavor.
I have heard that the silkies have five toes. the black could be a java or an astrolorpe. not sure on the others. they are cute though. any guesses on this baby?
I started giving my babies broccoli at about 3 weeks. Make sure you have the grit for them to grind their food with. I cut all the very tips of the broccoli off and they went nuts for it. today they had fresh spinach leaves cut up in tiny pieces. I also noticed when I put my chicks in a new...
Gonna have to agree on this one Ruby is a Robby. Hens dont normal get their red like the roos do. Keep handling him and giving him treats and he should be a nice boy. Hens are happier when they have a rooster. I have three buff babys and one that looks like a rir or hampshire red. cant wait...
I am using a 55 gallon rubbermaid tote and it is working great. I had a 250 watt heat lamp on them for the first 2 weeks and then just had the heat on in the spare room where I have them for now. During the day I have a section partioned off where they get their exercise and fresh vegys for...
Here is a better picture of "carol" Compared to its companions Carol is taking its time deciding to get wing feathers. Everyone else has their wings almost complete with some baby fuzz still in patches. I am hoping its a new hampshire roo but will be happy if its not. pretty sure the rest...
