It's actually a little high if you ask me. It should be at the height right above their backs, to where they have to duck to go under. The plate is mimicking mama bird. And when they're under their mama, they aren't standing straight up. I have only raised baby chicks once so far. But the plate...
Thanks! She got picked on for a bit in my flock too. She had no feathers on her back for awhile. They just finally grew back in. I had other hens missing feathers too. I'm not sure if it was from my Blue (BBS) Ameraucana rooster, or the other hens, or combination of the 2. But I haven't had an...
I actually have a white egg laying Easter Egger.
I bought all my chickens at the same time as day-old chicks from Meyers Hatchery. I ordered 2 Frizzled Easter Eggers. 1 of the 2 failed to thrive and passed away at 6 weeks. The 1 that did make it has all white feathers and is all Frizzled.
I...
Yes, it does. Varying shades of blue. Like my hen who has varying shades of light blue to dark blue. Which can vary depending on genetics.
I read that you can get darker blue offspring by mating a Black BBS Ameraucana with a Blue BBS Ameraucana.
The head and neck in the original picture...
I ordered 2 Blue BBS Ameraucanas from Meyers back in 2022. 1 hen and 1 rooster, because I'd love to hatch out some in the future.
These are the best pictures i have of both of them together. They're older pictures. The hen is on the left, rooster on the right. She's not very photogenic. LOL...
This is going to sound hilarious... But my Frizzled Easter Egger lays that white egg. She is all white and all Frizzled. LOL I think she's more of a Frizzled Leghorn. I was expecting blue/green eggs. And I watched her pop out a white one. Sorry, but this is the best picture I have of her at the...
Not today, but recent. I do have a cockerel, almost rooster... But he's a Blue (BBS) Ameraucana. I do have a matching pullet, almost hen. They all hatched on August 28th, 2022.
I'm not sure where you live. But where I live, there really aren't any "good inexpensive feed". The inexpensive feeds are usually deficient in one thing or another. And I wouldn't trust feeding it to my chickens. Plus the price of feed can vary from state to state, region to region. I use Purina...
The one with the bigger comb that is more red than the rest, is your cockerel. The rest look like pullets to me. But kinda hard to tell one bird from the next, from picture to picture.
I bought a pair (cockerel and pullet) of Blue (BBS) Ameraucana. The reason I bought Blue over Black or Splah, is because I wanted to breed them. By breeding the 2 Blues, I'll get 50% Blue, 25% Black, and 25% Splash offspring. Which gives me the best color variety.
And from what I've researched...
I'm a first time chicken owner. I have 15 chickens. 14 pullets, 1 cockerel. They all hatched on August 28th, 2022. I bought 10 different breeds, because I wanted a variety of egg colors. Plus it gives me experience with different breeds. I ordered them all at the same time through Meyers and had...
I got it on Amazon. It definitely did its job. I don't remember paying that much for it. I did buy it almost a year ago.
