blackhead (hisomoniasis) confirm confirmed in one of my sudden girls deaths

Yes, the vet did explain that. The necropsy report stated that there was a secondary infection that lead to death. Like you said it’s likely other chickens are carrying the cecal eggs/worms or whatever and won’t necessarily die from it. It was just so shocking. I’ve raised chickens for a decade...

blackhead (hisomoniasis) confirm confirmed in one of my sudden girls deaths

I have not used sand in the main run. I mentioned throwing sand down on the larger run area but I won’t. Thanks for the tip about wood chips

blackhead (hisomoniasis) confirm confirmed in one of my sudden girls deaths

We found my eight month old hen dead in the coop Tuesday morning. I brought her into an Animal disease lab near me (thank goodness we have that) and they determined her cause of death was blackhead (hisomoniasis). I have 12 other girls. They are in an enclosed run. They have two areas one has...

Mille fleur d’Uccle Bantam Rooster illness

I guess my question is after you split it in half do you just put it into their gullet? Or do you mash it into food?

Mille fleur d’Uccle Bantam Rooster illness

OK, I just discovered it was water soluble. I also just had a aha moment. I think I might’ve hurt my rooster because I was only feeding him layer pellets. I’ve always only had hands in this last batch of chicks had a rooster. It didn’t even occur to me that I should be feeding him something...

Mille fleur d’Uccle Bantam Rooster illness

Dix is an eight month old bantom rooster. He has a mate who is just like him, but is a frizzle named Pinecone. I have 12 other chickens, but these two stay in a separate coop, although they have access to the rest of the flock because they are small and they like to stay separate. A week ago, I...

    Hernia/prolaspe? Egg bound? Help!

The vet said it may come back and I just need to watch for the swelling again. But she clearly feels way better now!

    Hernia/prolaspe? Egg bound? Help!

Well I finally got worried enough about her being egg bound that I found a rural vet because she was swollen and tight in her abdomen. They drained out 150 mls of liquid from her belly.! It was so gross. She feels so much better now though. She was on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory meds. Doc...

    Hernia/prolaspe? Egg bound? Help!

So I’ve decided to at least wash her bottom in some warm water tomorrow because it looks disgusting. I was going to set her in a warm tub.Should I add Epson salt over that aggravate her hernia? Or would that feel good I don’t know…?

    Hernia/prolaspe? Egg bound? Help!

Update: Athena is still acting normal. I noticed her prolapse is back today. Should I keep intervening and push it back in or let it be? The other 2 HenS don’t seem to be bothering it. She hasn’t laid an egg since last Saturday.

    Hernia/prolaspe? Egg bound? Help!

Thanks! That’s sort of my general approach with them. I never should’ve clean their butts because I would not have seen her hernia. I have an eye on her.💕

    Hernia/prolaspe? Egg bound? Help!

Hi everyone, I spent hours combing through previous posts trying to self diagnose....I think I may have gone too far. My 2 year old hen had a poopy butt (but so did all 3 hens) so I decided to clean it and saw a red bulge coming out of her vent. So I gently tried to persuade it back inside...
