About 18 months ago we adopted some roosters and hens from a neighbor that was moving away. I built a nice "tri-plex" coop and set of runs for them and all seemed well. My wife would do most of the care and feeding, while I maintained the coops and runs. Of the few hens we had, some passed away...
Thank you very much Frazzemrat1. That graphic and text was exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. Without it, I could see the subtle differences but without the knowledge I really couldn't be sure. Now I know.
Thanks for making the time to post the info; hopefully other folks like me will...
Well I must say I am super embarrassed to ask this question, but after searching I cannot tell for sure if this is a hen or rooster (the black one)??
We have a few roosters and just one little hen. Of course the one hen is kept separate and I don't want to make the mistake of putting this (new...

Yes, but I am kicking myself for not being a member of the forum before I built the "triple coop". Under a bit of time pressure (and oppressive triple digit heat), I penciled out what would seem to work the best and went for it. The coop is mostly done, I am starting tomorrow on the runs. Two...
Wow, thanks for the amazing welcome. Again I am so grateful for the forum.
We are adopting the neighbors roosters and hens, hence the time crunch to get a coop and other things done before they sell their house.
Looking forward to learning from folks on here.
PS. Eberle is down the road...
So very soon we'll have four little roosters and two hens, all treated mostly like pets if that makes any sense. Of course they don't all get along, but between the six of them, they need three coops.
I'm a "noobie" in the care and handling of chicks, but I believe the roosters are Bantams...
