I brood 100 broilers at a time, and try to give them a decent amount of space, so my current brooder setup takes up the full area I have available for brooding. I'm really wanting to go with some kind of vertical option both for ease of reaching them while they're in the brooder, and to have...
I know there was a lot of hullaballoo last year around the way chicks were being managed in these in-store last year (employees not cleaning pasty butt, mostly), but has anyone used one of these stacking brooders at home?
My first batch of meat birds arrive in 3 weeks, the standup brooder I...
oh, hi there neighbor! I'm headed up to Hammond.
I didn't know about M&M. That's useful info. I'm looking for a mix of production white, brown, and tinted egg layers. Might play around with some Marans in the future, but for now egg production is priority #1.
More ducks would be nice, and I'm...
The more affordable places I was looking wanted 20+ of each breed and sex with no mixing. Lower minimum places seem to be running high on price per chick compared to prior years. I was able to get ducks, turkeys, and broilers ordered so they're squared away. I'm still going to be looking for...
Hey All,
Wow, it's been a while since I was active here!
So, I'm moving from 1.5 acres in CT to 35 acres in northern NY (St Lawrence County), and looking to scale up our poultry operation. However, the move is happening in mid-April, so we've already missed our normal brooding window, and...
3 and 3 would be great but I'm going to assume 2 and 4 until I see feathering. It's funny how all the online guides make the differences look super obvious on day 1 when the reality is so much more subtle.
I know this in theory, but apart from the one in the first solo picture, I can't tell if the rest are light or dark colored. Would love your assessment!
Hey All,
just had a very successful first goose egg incubation attempt - 6 of 9 hatched and so for 5 are surviving (one looks a bit weaker than the others). But now I'm having a heck of a time telling what my goose/gander breakdown is. All the photos of these goslings I see online are obvious...
I have a Nigerian Dwarf doe in need of a new home. We rescued her from a bad situation in April and, after 3 months of observation and care, we think she's ready for a new home. We have full size Alpine/Nubian girls, and she deserves to be in a herd of goats her own size.
Since this was an...
Hi there. We built it and have been using it with general success. We did put it on slightly smaller wheels, because that's what we had (20" instead of 26"), which makes it a little tougher to move on uneven ground, but it's still very much mobile, and I have no complaints so far.
Can't say I've ever been in that scenario, but I'm pretty confident in my friends' willingness to help a fella out.
What shipping method do you use for chicks? I wasn't aware of any alternatives.
I had chicks shipped this year, and due to a one day delay they'll be arriving while I'm out of town, leaving my wife to pick them up. I tried to find where she'll need to pick them up, but am getting two different results from USPS. How do I tell where my package is going to be waiting?
