I am very new to Silkies - what is it that makes him pet quality? The redness of his comb/wattles or are there other things that you see. I appreciate you taking the time to post. He was purchased as a pet so no worries. What is his colouring? Thanks, Shelley

Whew, so he may not be a 'freak'? lol Not that that would matter - he is just obviously unusual. He fits in just fine with the rest.

8 weeks old and big difference!

Basskids08, I got the 6 when they were 3-4 weeks old. My tiniest, a black is probably the 3 wk one, but he was (the blue) no bigger than the other 5. Mr. Wattles is the largest, but not by much. Even in regards to feathering, he is similar to his nest mates. Maybe he isn't pure Silkie...

8 weeks old and big difference!

    Silkie newbie

Thank you for all the kind welcomes! I had wondered about what to do regarding a sleeping area for the main coop, but a low roost in front of a long nesting box sounds idea. I was hoping to avoid having them sleep on the coop floor. Bird isn't bearded...and I don't think the babies are...

    Silkie newbie

Hi, I'm Shelley and I got my first Silkie a few months ago. A year old rooster I call 'Bird'. I tried, "Bud" and "Boo", but he ignores me, "Bird" and he looks interested. I got him in mid-March and still had 3 feet of snow in the yard, so he is a kitchen chicken. He sleeps in a dog crate...

    rooster collars??

I have a year old Silkie. I've only had him for a few months, but he's a pretty easy going guy. Nah, he's extremely laid back. Because I got him when we still had 3 ft of snow in the yard he's currently a 'kitchen chicken' and I didn't have to worry about his crowing as he wasn't outside much...
