At night we lock ours up during the day we have two buff geese to help protect them. We have predators a nesting pair of Bald eagles a half mile away, bears, and state game lands behind us. The only animal we had problems with is neighbors dog took one and broke ones wing.
They horse stall pellet I beleave they are pine. No cleaning till it starts to smell. The size of area will change how often it will need clean. We have 10 ducks and 2 geese in a 12'×24' shed so they have plenty of room
Domestic ducks can fly most just can't go far. If you have wild ducks come in and make friends with your's, she will fly away. Other than that the mallards should stick around.
We like Welsh Harlequins. Colorful very friendly also if it is the size of rat or smaller they will chase it and try to eat it. They have gave chase to squirrels but have not grabbed one.
We use a layer or horse stall pellet to absorb the wet. Then pine shavings on top. With out stall pellets it got smelly in days. Using stall pellets it can go weeks before it starts to smell.
I was hoping it was a complaint Officers like that are not helping the image of police. For him to go looking for minor thing to harass a citizen gives all Police a black eye. Sorry you have person like that. Who got a badge!!!!
May be a new neighbor or one became upset. One of our neighbors has called the township on us 4 times so far. Ranging from some minor repairs I have done to saying our goose attacked and bite his daughter. We have American Buff geese a 4 foot high no-climb goat fence around them. Not saying it...
I would fight it not sure how it would work. We got an exemption from our zoning due to my wife's allergy to chicken eggs. Get as many examples of ducks being pets as you can to use in defence of keeping them.
I forgot to mention the male Golden 300's can be very aggressive ours grabbed our male Buff Goose by the front of his neck. The male Golden did not survive that mistake.
We have had 7 Golden hens since May 2015 they lay almost an egg a day until January thru March then we got average 5 eggs a day. We do not use lights to promote eggs they free range on a half acre. They are great! We have since added 3 Harlequins someone was giving away when we already had 5...
@Cherib603 I have never seen or read anything saying don't use lava rocks in a container. They should not be used in a open area where it cut ducks feet. So if you have a source of info please share. I did search for info on why not to use lava rocks. Only thing not to do is have in open area...
@Vincible1 that is the product we used it worked well we are now experimenting with other beneficial bacteria. If you google microbe-lift that is the name across the front of bottle. Other brands made for large ponds and lakes are what we are trying out now.
