We have been researching this for a while, and we have decided that we want to start a worm farm for compost, bait, and "liquid gold". We live in the western part of Michigan and need to come up with a fun and funny name for our new farm. We came up with a few, but all we came up with had the...
If you could post a picture, I can probably be more help. It may just be the umbilical cord and egg sack, but I would like to see before giving a definitive answer.
Yes, that is perfectly normal. It may be a little bigger than normal, or she just doesn't have the hang of it yet.
They can happen with any age, but is extremely common for newbie layers (under 2 years). As long as she seems healthy in other ways I.E drinking, eating, etc. Then she is fine. ;)
At this age they are establishing "pecking order". It is perfectly normal and will most likely get better once they get older. She will probably just be head hen. As long as they don't get bloody or hurt i would stick it out. Introducing a new chick may not help, and your chicks may gang up on...
I personally love Mille Fluer D'Uccles. They are one of the smartest bantams I have owned, and are very gentle and tend to love cuddles. We bought our first from MyPetChicken, since they have a minimum order of just 5 bantams.
As far as egg laying goes, bantams tend to lay 2-3 a week on...
Just got 6 chicks from TSC all varying ages. The youngest of them are the BBR Old English, and the smallest of them, Fargo, Has been having trouble 'going to the bathroom'.
He is otherwise looking healthy; no pasty butt, no watery eyes or obvious pain, but when he tries to go, he...

That would be wonderful. I love Old English, these little guys are spunky. I raise BBR OE. Would love to add another color variety to my breeding program. :) Thank you for your help.
Judging by the slate leg color and the beak color, I think the black one is an australorp. They are still good egg layers, but may be picked on by the barred rocks due to their calm nature. I could be wrong though. I haven't raised standard breeds in a long while.
I went to Tractor Supply to get some more Mille Fluer D'Uccles and Old English the other day, and we had to take a minimum of six. So I purchased 2 of each, plus a pair of "Mystery Chicks". These little guys are just feathering out, clean legged and single combed. They are pure white and seem to...
Hello BYC, My name is Mary, and I am a small-time backyard breeder in western Michigan. Currently I breed Quail Antwerp Belgians, Old English Game (BBR) and Mille Fluer D'uccles. I also teach younger kids how to raise and train their birds to show their stuff. I hope to contribute to the forums...
