Thank you! I'll look around here. We're in Canada, and not sure I've heard of these before now, but we live on the border, so I can make run down and see what's nearby in Idaho if it's not available here.
Thank you! I couldn't find what these bugs were anywhere online! Friends with chickens had never seen them before either!
Thanks for your help! I'll see if I can track those products down!
I caught one! Most pictures I've seen online are blurry, so not even sure, but this is what I just pulled off of one of my broody hens!
What is it? Mite? Flea? Something else? Could this be the source of the other issues we're seeing? Or something else altogether? 🙈
The one beside the stick is the now thicker one from the hen who was squirtin' watery poos. She's also molting?! Started looking more ragged yesterday especially and when we were dusting her, she has new feathers coming in all over.
Thank you! I'll do that!
I checked them again, and found some kind of bugs on my broodies, but not like what we've seen in pictures for mites or live, kind of flat, really small little brown bugs further up the shaft of the feathers. They didn't move very fast but I still couldn't get ahold of...
I hope someone knows what's up and it isn't serious!
Came to sit out on the deck, watching the chickens and my 3yr old leghorn is walking around, scratching, pecking ,energetic, acting normal, red comb. Then vomits milky looking liquid, then moments later does it again! I've never seen this...
Well, this is very helpful!
That said, I'm not sure it answers the question of one of my girls. Maybe you folks have some insights? I did read the article linked above and it was enlightening, but still not sure on this girls situation, seems a bit out of the ordinary for what I'm seeing on...
Hi! Thanks for responding!
She has been sleeping on the floor, we have a small coop and I put in hinged roosting bars, but when it was very cold a few weeks ago, they were staying on the floor anyways, so I folded up the roosts and lowered the heat lamp so they'd fare better through the weeks...
I posted this to a semi-recent thread, but might not be active anymore, so thought I'd post here for help!
Not sure what's going on with one of our hens, noticed a difference yesterday! Her feathers have been thin on her chest for a little while as I can see her skin when her crop is full...
Found something similar going on with one of our hens today! Her feathers have been thin on her chest as I can see her skin when her crop is full.
She's eating and drinking fine, enough energy to give me a heck of a time catching her to check on her 😅, she seems to be acting pretty normal...
This is very interesting. I'm watching our friends/neighbors chickens while they're away and am concerned about head shaking. There are 13 and they are constantly shaking their heads. They also look pretty rough. They're missing loads of feathers. It's very cold here, so seems odd they'd be...
I've looked for info on the freezing point for petroleum jelly and can't find it. I have seen temperature for becoming flammable, but not freezing. Do you happen to know?
